About this deal

Making of the Free as a Bird Video - Making the first Beatles video in twenty-five years must have been a humbling experience for all concerned. This supplement gives some detail on the creative process, the technical aspects and the public's reception of the video. Two specific elements make Anthology an artistic triumph. First there are the interviews. Each of the surviving Beatles had creative control over what content would go into the finished product and each also seems to have understood the great responsibility of documenting their careers on film. As a result, they were careful to leave in footage that is frank about their differences, that presents each of their unique views of events and that even puts them in a bad light from time to time. John is represented here by archival audio and video interviews that fit into the program so well that you'd think he was right there in the room with Paul, George and Ringo. More on 'All For Love' -- what Paul really said (with pictures)". Abbeyrd.best.vwh.net. Archived from the original on 28 November 2013 . Retrieved 20 August 2011. Got to Get You into My Life – Played over footage showing the Beatles arriving at the Haneda Airport, Tokyo on 30 June 1966. The Beatles Anthology is a documentary television series on the career of the Beatles. It was broadcast on UK television in eight parts on ITV between 26 November and 31 December 1995, while in the United States it was seen as three feature-length episodes on ABC between 19 and 23 November 1995. [1] It was released in greatly expanded form as an eight-volume VHS set and an eight-disc LaserDisc set on 5 September 1996. The series was re-released on DVD in 2003, with an 81-minute special-features disc.

The Beatles Anthology - Wikipedia

We were all expanding in all areas in our life; opening up to a lot of different attitudes." – Ringo StarrThe documentary series was first broadcast in November 1995, with expanded versions released on VHS and LaserDisc in 1996 and on DVD in 2003. The documentary used interviews with the Beatles and their associates to narrate the history of the band as seen through archival footage and performances. The Anthology book, released in 2000, paralleled the documentary in presenting the group's history through quotes from interviews. Ringo: "...Our whole attitude was changing.... I think grass was really influential in a lot of our changes." These youngsters from Liverpool, England... Their conduct over here, not only as fine professional singers but as a group of fine youngsters will leave an imprint with everyone over here who has met them." — Ed Sullivan

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – Footage showing live performance by Jimi Hendrix at the Isle of Wight Festival on 31 August 1970. Includes John's "jewelry" comment as an introduction to "Twist and Shout": "For our last number, I'd like to ask your help. Would the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands, and the rest of you, if you'd just rattle your jewelry." Recollections (June 1994): Paul, George, and Ringo spend a summer's day together singing, playing and warmly remembering the early days George: "They'd been writing since we were at school. They'd written all – or most of their bad songs before we got into the recording studio. I had to come from nowhere and start writing and to have something at least quality enough to put in the record with all their wondrous hits."Rāga Charu Kishi – Footage showing snippets of a Sitar Recital of the Rāga by Ravi Shankar; George discussing the context of using sitar in Norwegian Wood. Footage from the classic comedy short film Running Jumping Standing Still, directed by Richard Lester. Footage of an interview with Derek Taylor, the Beatles' press liaison, regarding his visit to Torquay accompanying Brian Epstein while he was writing A Cellarful of Noise. [ clarification needed] Anthology 2 was released on 17 March 1996. The second collection presented out-takes and demos from the Beatles' sessions for Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour. These included selected early demos and takes for Lennon's " Strawberry Fields Forever", previously available only to bootleg collectors. The new song " Real Love" – which, like "Free as a Bird", was based on an unfinished Lennon recording – was also included in the two-CD collection.

The success of the Anthology albums was parodied by the release of the Rutles' Archaeology some months later. Delays in the release of the third volume of the Beatles' series ultimately meant that the Rutles' parody arrived in shops on the same day as its inspiration. Footage of live performance on Morecambe and Wise, recorded at ATV's Elstree TV studio's on Monday 2 December 1963, and broadcast on Saturday 18 April 1964 (8.25pm). Produced in 1995 by the (then) remaining three living Beatles, Yoko Ono and Neil Aspinall, Anthology is a monumental documentary spanning the entire career of the band from the boys' Liverpool days, through Beatlemania and right up to their breakup in 1970. Logging in at nearly 11 hours, Anthology is comprehensive to say the least. The documentary is composed of footage gathered from dozens of different sources including promotional films made by The Beatles, TV broadcasts, newsreels, archival footage, home movies and contemporary interviews with George, Paul and Ringo. These disparate elements, many of which had not been seen since the 60s, are woven together into a masterful program that pulls the viewer through the history of the band so effortlessly that the 11 hours seem to just melt away.
