About this deal

In fact, the Alexa integration really does work rather nicely in tandem with the king-sized display – in some ways it’s rather like a giant Echo Show ( read our review here). To be honest though - if you're concerned about things like processor speed and RAM, then you should really be avoiding JVC altogether. If you’re looking for a large sound that doesn’t come across as cluttered or overbearing, you’ll be happy with this TV’s audio performance – but investing in a separate soundbar is the easiest way to boost the sound performance on offer here. That means you should be able to enjoy streaming HDR content from any of the main providers, with the added bonus that you’ll get the best results on any streaming service with Dolby Vision support, which currently includes Disney+ and Netflix.

JVC Fire TV Edition review: An affordable 4K HDR Alexa TV

Indeed, the lack of buttons may be a refreshing change for many users – or indeed for kids who just want their fix of Paw Patrol.

Games suffer particularly badly, and while fast-moving games in 4K don’t look too bad, dropping the resolution to 1080p results in a smeary-looking mess. This 43in model struggled to get bright enough to remain watchable in brighter rooms, and with no support for dynamic HDR formats and a sub-par backlight, HDR content was unwatchably dim.

The limited 4GB of internal storage also means that you won’t be able to install too many apps before running out of space, and you may need to add more storage in the form of a USB thumb drive or similar before too long. Any information will be really helpful as i am about to take the tv back if it does not support HDMI 2. It’s not too noticeable in brighter scenes, but detail and colours are smudged by horrible blur in darker moments. Flick to terrestrial TV or standard Full HD content, and the JVC struggles to effectively upscale to the native 4K resolution. With LCD screens this is done by CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent lamp) and LED makes use of LED lights.Measuring the inches on your LED television is done by measuring the diagonal distance between for example the upper left corner and the lower right corner of the screen (not the edge). Spending a decent amount of money on a Vestel TV with only a 1 year warranty may not end up being a good move.

The LT-55CF890 features the old Fire TV interface and not the all-new Fire TV experience available on some of its streamers. Colours looked rather drab, which made the image less lifelike, although the upscaling overall was smoother and less noisy than that I experienced with the Hisense 50A7100FTUK. JayCee's message says he got that info from the 'Expert Reviews' site and it seems to back up what you suspected - that they are not HDMI 2.

In darker scenes it’s possible to see blooming around the edges where the backlight bleeds through too readily, and there’s also some dirty screen effect visible with striping and blotchiness visible on dark grey backgrounds. One inch equals 2,54 centimeter, so when you measure 99 centimeter, this means your LED television is 39 inches. You love Alexa If you rely on Alexa in your day-to-day life, you’ll appreciate the voice assistance button on the remote, as well as the ability to control your smart home and access Alexa Skills right from your TV. Images look soft, smeary and lacking in detail, and this combines with the poor motion handling to make for some very unimpressive results. When letter input is required, you can press that button once for the first letter, press twice for the second letter and press 3 times for the third letter.

In terms of usability, the Fire TV interface does a lot right, but the JVC’s processor does struggle to keep it running smoothly. If you want to see the JVC at its best, however, then fire up Netflix and seek out some Dolby Vision 4K content. The Fire TV interface is very likeable despite its more sluggish moments, and being able to tell Alexa what you want to watch is a big plus.

The 4K display supports Dolby Vision and HLG HDR formats, and the speakers take advantage of both DTS HD and DTS Virtual X audio. You can all but forget about the glorious, eye-popping spectacle of pricier TVs, but dim the lights and toggle the Dolby Vision Dark profile on, and you’re rewarded with a pretty watchable picture.
