Because Snap-Caps are designed and moulded to very fine tolerances, the caps cannot be pushed on "flat". I need a method to cover screws for a high end client at a blue chip event and Snap-caps fitted the bill perfectly, not only was the product great the range of colours gave a perfect finish. In essence, once water enters a space (because it is not sealed properly) instead of the water evaporating out again later, it becomes water vapour and remains in the space for a much longer time. This table indicates some of the different types and sizes of fixings that can be used with Snap-Caps. Because they are UV-stabilised and completely seal the head of the fixing, Snap-Caps are ideal for exterior as well as interior applications.
The Snap-Cap washer is available to suit either Countersunk screws, or for any of the ‘Flat-Bottom’ fixings (such as pan-head screws). Using the correct washer type will support your fixing properly, giving improved clamping performance and prevent the screw distorting the washer - crucial to why genuine Snap-Caps are the ONLY cover caps that COMPLETELY seal the head of the fixing. This effect can be easily confirmed, by examining vehicles that use hinge-caps over the number-plate fixings. The Snap-Caps will definitely be regular additions to the signs we produce, as they give the 'attention to detail' finish we really care about. Snap-Caps ( aka "Dome caps" or "UniCaps") were developed more than 40 years ago, and are still the best and most secure way to cover and protect screws, fixings and fasteners. It is by no means definitive, and there are numerous examples of imported fixings that are sized differently enough to not fit. With so many different Egger product ranges, we (Cover-Caps UK) have decided to focus on the Egger Range 2020-2023.We wouldn't usually use screw fixings to secure our graphics as our client demands such a high quality finish but having had issues in the past using high bond tapes at this particular location the snap caps were the perfect solution. It is well known that greys are perfect colours in terms of universality - they match many elements.
In such cases, we have sometimes listed an alternative colour as the 'best available' although we recommend that users should select an appropriate contrasting colour. The cap is then "snapped" over the washer, mating by means of an interlocking peripheral groove and flange. Ensure you are using the correct Washer type for the head of the fixing - you MUST use a CSK Washer with Countersunk-head fixings, and F/B Washer for all "flat-bottomed" fixings such as pan-heads, flange-heads etc. I spoke to a helpful guy on the phone who was very enthusiastic and helpful about the range of Snap Cap products.
For the type of plastic used for Snap-Caps, these changes to the behaviour of the plastic are most noticable when the plastic is below 15°C. Below this value does not justify the costs of maintaining an account due to the finance and administrative costs of double-handling these transactions. Whilst all possible care has been taken to ensure the best colour reproduction possible, variations between monitors means the colours will not display 100% accurately. The Fix: Before using, simply warm the caps in an 'inside' pocket (ie close to your body), or in an oven or similar warming device to a maximum of 100°C.
