About this deal

That's probably your best bet if that sort of thing bothers you (personally, I prefer sharp pixels except in extreme cases, like Twinkle Tale). Considering you own a FM, no These are just components cables with a little FM in there, don't bother.

Does it actually control the sampling rate or does it simply act as a finer sub-pixel based horizontal width control?

Completely agreed on your conclusion concerning modern TV's, and having a couple of spare CRT's doesn't even seem like such a crazy idea, come to think of it. The primary purpose of the OSSC is to digitize RGB and YPbPr sources for use on HDMI displays--it's entirely up to the display to support the signal it generates, and, unless you have a newer 4K TV that somehow has no problem with 576i/p or 50Hz, the OSSC isn't going to help you play your PAL consoles on your NTSC TV. There are other good upscalers available besides the ones listed above, but some are a bit less user-friendly. Could I just use a splitter on the audio running to the front, and loop it in to the back to save myself from running all these wires?

DarthKirby It was intended to show the image quality off the screen; it's not a "video review" but a guide on the standard you can expect, to accompany the written review. The OSSC is an awesome 1080p line multiplier, but it’s a bit more complicated to use than the RetroTINK products. that is to say, it does appear to be good for what it does, it's just that what it does is so unneeded and a waste unless you want to blow money on it).
