As I read the book, I went through a lot of emotions - happy, sad, angry (and not necessarily for the reasons you might think). I knew to be on the lookout for a twisted ending, after all, that's what the Queen of endings does - she twists them and they're always a surprise to me. Her actions and her life revolves now around what she is passionate about, like spending time with her daughters, with pets, writing, traveling, or enjoying a nice cup of coffee. An awesome scene will where the two of them show off their secret handshake as the leitmotif for MGS1 plays in the background. Looking back I see now some of the hints the author dropped in the story but what unfolded was a total shocker for me.
