After that initial clean, Deemaid would “empty” after every single clean; but there was always waste left behind. A second pass saw it collect another 7g, taking it up to 46g, which is a reasonable effort, but by this time the rice that hadn’t been collected was all over the place, and even the remaining four grams of rice looks like a lot when it’s all over your floor. The self-emptying proved to be a bit of a mixed bag as well, often struggling to suck all of the dust out of the N8+’s bin in one go. The mopping/vacuuming is great, but the Deebot T9+ is more likely to spread a big spill around rather than pick it up. If there’s a disappointment about the Ecovacs Deebot N8+, it’s that it doesn’t fully live up to its promise. To start, it went to my living room, traversing with relative ease, even going under furniture that was mere millimeters from the laser mapping tool that sits on top.If you find the vacuum struggling to get around certain rugs or pieces of furniture, there’s a boundary tool, where using either a square or line, you can block off certain areas. The robot has two sweeping brushes at the front, one on each side, to gather debris from the floor and feed it into the vacuum aperture. This is a significant item to have plugged in and visible in your home, much bigger than the usual robot vacuum chargers. I was also slightly disappointed by the Auto-Empty Station, which failed to remove debris from the dust box if it was too caked together.

This ought to come down to a question of how much you’re prepared to pay to have your robot emptied for you, but on closer inspection, it’s not quite that simple. Lift up the hinged cover on the top to reveal the easy-to-remove dust bin, which at 420mL in capacity, is similar to other robot vacuums. In total, I may have spent one minute doing this before each clean, but that tiny bit of effort was worth it to get optimal results. After you’ve settled on the map, it’s easy to select specific rooms or map out custom areas to clean. The Ecovacs Deebot N8+ comes in a much larger box than most robot vacuums because of its charging station, which also functions as the emptying bin.A cleaning tool is actually provided on the vacuum to make removal easier, and it's recommended that you replace the brush after every 300 hours. Once the battery has dropped to 15%, to charge it back up will take some time, with Ecovacs claiming 6. From this I’d say you get about 3 hours of use with each charge – which aligns with Ecovacs' 175-minute claim.
