About this deal

With relationships tested, Nell learns that falling in love might be easy, but staying in love can be hard. Nell is a forty something single woman without a job and accommodation unlike her friends who are all married and have kids and have their own houses. I hate to say it but I think Potter was riding the wave of the success of the first book from her adoring fans but sometimes it’s best to know when to leave well enough alone.

or cruising through your forties murmuring, "Been there, done that," there's a slice of life in here for everyone. I did have some issues with the portrayal of childless women but it is comedy/light entertainment and I don't want to discuss my views here. PDF] [EPUB] More Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up: The WTF AM I DOING NOW follow up to the runaway bestseller Download by Alexandra Potter. To exercising with Joe, Zoom quizzes, banging pots and whooping on the doorstep on a Thursday evening, and dancing in a sparkly dress with Sophie in the kitchen. This is a great follow-up to the first book set 2 years on as Nell continues with her podcast and still struggles with life. But the most unexpected surprise is when Nell strikes up a friendship with an eighty something year old widow whose husband she’s writing an obituary piece about. Life finally seems to be plain sailing for Nell - her job, her man, her friends all going well - but this wouldn't be real life without a few spanners in the works so nothing is quite as settled as she thought. Because on some level, in some aspect of your life, it’s so easy to feel like you’re failing when everyone around you appears to be succeeding. Worse still, all Nell’s friends seem to have moved on and settled down into marriage and motherhood.

What I also really loved about this book is how Alexandra Potter gently weaves in the subject of depression/anxiety into the story. The new Bridget Jones for our times’ Celia Walden, The Telegraph’The story of Nell Stevens’ struggle through her imperfect, messy life doesn’t just make brilliant fiction, it’s turning into a cultural revolution! They were going to get married, have babies, and spend the rest of their lives together, until they weren’t.I really enjoyed this book and I felt like I can really connect with Nell as she tries to navigate life in her forties. Potter’s writing grips you with prose that you’ll remember, this description of routine a prime example - “Routine is a funny old thing. Third and probably my biggest complaint of all (and once again going by the trailer I watched) by going with a US network they lost all the British humour.

Todėl nors ir nesikankinau ir visai džiaugiuosi perskaičiusi, nes ir juokiausi, ir pritariamai linksėjau, turbūt būčiau tokia knyga labiau pasimėgavusi prieš kokius du-tris metus, kai nebuvau skaičiusi jos pradininkių. I enjoyed the main characters in this book, especially Cricket, Nell's octogenarian best friend, who definitely doesn't act her age and doesnt care what others think! This book is just as funny and heartfelt from start to finish and for any woman or man who wonders how the hell she got here and why life isn't quite how she imagined it was going to be. It also annoys me that in society, if you're 25-40 and you're single/childless/unemployed (delete as applicable), you're deemed a failure. Confessions of a Forty-Something F*ck Up is perfect comfort reading for anyone who thinks life isn’t working out as they want it to, whether they’re forty, fourteen or eighty-four.

Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up by Alexandra Potter will make you laugh, and it might even make you cry. Alexandra’s novel, One Good Thing, is still one of my forever favourites, and I loved how different this book was to it, whilst still being every bit as wonderful and addictive.

I despaired with Nell as she dealt with a number of common problems faced by forty somethings, there were funny moments, but also areas of pure understanding. It still touched on a number of themes and had the same funny, lighthearted humour sprinkled in with some more heartfelt moments that I’ve come to love about Alexandra Potter’s writing but the plot was not as strong. And here she Is single, childless, renting a room from the crazy man who tries to leave NO carbon footprint by counting toilet paper squares etc. I loved her friendships with Cricket, Fiona and Arthur and I got so caught up in her life that I was telling my husband about her antics as if she was a real person. Cricket is the most wonderful character, my joint favourite in fact, the sort of eighty-something year old we would all love to be. Cricket is, as usual, her irreverent, fearless self from wild swimming to ‘build your own coffin’ classes - the latter doubling up as a great home bar - whilst muddling through her own issues. As someone who is forty without the husband and children I’d always thought I’d have (and no real prospects on the horizon), I thought I’d finally found something I could relate to.
