The colours are vibrant and I sometimes use them alongside Derwents pencil ranges like Coloursoft and Lightfast. For your knowledge, it’s advisable to draw up your own colour chart so that you can get to know the actual colours of your pencils. This post will illustrate how the additional 24 pencils contribute to the colour families in the range. However, it takes a long time to make your own chart, and it usually is something that we don’t get around to doing. I’ve been trying to do my own tri tone book using luminance but struggling so I for one am so happy to see this! Compared to the previous range of 76, this is an increase of 3 neutral colours, and 21 colours that belong to the colour wheel colour families.I have applied up to 15 layers of pencil to some drawings, which results in a detailed, 3D effect allowing me to achieve the level of realism seen in this close-up image of a Boxer dog eye. The expanded range previously had less than 4 pencils in the red, orange, green, and blue-violet colour families.

While the colours are of varying shades and tones, the predominant base colour belongs to the colour wheel family in which it has been placed.

Incorporating a wide range of browns and greys which animal artists use regularly, they provide a useful selection of 'barely there' colour tints such as Buff Titanium (801) and Silver grey (002), through to the deeper tones like Sepia (407) and Payne's grey (508).
