About this deal

A slightly dark, girl power retelling of a classic fairy tale that pulls no punches and adds intelligence to the main character. The texts do not explain the story a lot, but the illustrations show many details which help readers understand the whole story. At the climax, the author, Bethan Woollvin, illustrates a full two- page spread focusing on Little Red’s eyes.

We understand that not everyone can donate right now, but if you can afford to contribute, we promise it will be put to good use. A book lover myself, I strongly believe in reading to kids on a daily basis, to help them turn into mini bookworms. My new favorite thing about this book--besides those creative endpapers on which the story begins and finishes--is the representation of the characters. Eager to discover whether the prince rescues the slumbering princess, Ella Bella waits for the other children to leave and then opens Madame Rosa’s enchanted musical box. Final verdict: LITTLE RED is a simple recounting of the fairytale with a touch of horror/scary that is great for less sensitive readers before Halloween.BOOK: ISLANDBORN AUTHOR: JUNOT DIAZ ILLUSTRATOR: LEO ESPINOSA PUBLISHER: DIAL BOOKS FOR YOUNG READERS PAGES: 50 AGE RECOMMENDED: 5+ This story follows the life of Lola, a young girl who embarks on a journey to discover her roots with the help of her family and friends. Receiving critiques from your peers is vital in the creative process, but if you or others judge an idea before it has bloomed you might start to doubt something that could have been amazing. I had thought of several different texts to use, but Little Red Riding Hood stuck out as a story that I felt needed changing. The little red riding story tells about a little girl who outsmarted the wolf and she saves herself and her granny.

I think artists in general are always looking for ways to improve and refine their artwork, but since Little Red has received such a warm reception, it reassures me that I wouldn’t change a thing!Images Donate icon An illustration of a heart shape Donate Ellipses icon An illustration of text ellipses. After reading the author's newest book "Rapunzel", I had to go back and read her first book and this one is even better. This book can also be interpreted to help a child stand against any bully and how they can be bold and save themselves.

Simply told, this RRH reselling stands out because of its sparse colours and understated text: I've read it daily for three days now and find something new to ponder each time. I was at university whilst I was working on Little Red, so I guess going to lectures and seminars were a bit of a distraction – but in a good way! This is, for the most part, the original story of Little Red Riding Hood, only our Little Red here is no sissy girl. The text and illustrations in this Little Red Riding Hood retelling are stripped down to their bare minimum, and thus words and pictures collaborate in telling the story instead of repeating each other -- very well done! Advice I would give to an aspiring illustrator would be to not judge your own work too early, it could be something beautiful! This type of tale will empower any gender and any child can think they can be brave and can stand for themselves.

This derivative folktale, which retells the story of Little Red Riding Hood, is clever and humorous. The perfect gift for fans of darker fairy tales, complete with tree-shaped cover flaps that make this a sumptuous sight to behold. Printed using rich pantone colours, the graphic illustrations in Little Red offer a uniquely bold, visually arresting interpretation of the classic story by Bethan Woollvin, the winner of The Macmillan Prize for Illustration 2014.Shortlisted for the 2017 Klaus Flugge Prize | Of all fairy tales, the story of Little Red Hood is the one that seems to speak most directly to today’s audience, and to lend itself most readily to modern reinvention. The wolf takes a sneaky shortcut to Grandma's house, where he gobbles her up, dresses in her clothes and lies in wait for Little Red. The fairytale is conveyed well here, and I love that Little Red is the one who saves herself- a tale with some girl power in it. Little Red has been tidied up in the sense of illustrations and text but the story and the compositional ideas are the same as they were two years ago in my dummy book. Bethan Woollvin is the Macmillan prize-winning author and illustrator of the first two hoots book - little red.
