About this deal

Those who use interfaces’ bundled DSP mixers will always come back with wildly varying experiences, ranging from OK, to complicated, or even just plain bad. In practice, I actually think it would be fairer to say that it offers a user experience that’s somewhat familiar — but from much more expensive audio interfaces. Luke Goddard is an engineer and musician who has been living with instruments, mics, consoles, tapes, and gear of all shapes and sizes since he first started playing music nearly 30 years ago in the days of Portastudios and MIDIVerbs. Alongside a Master mix, you can create four further Cue mixes, then route each of these to a different pair of physical outputs.

Introducing EVO by Audient: Audio Interfaces To Work Smarter

The EVO 16’s high-res display makes it possible to do a lot of configuration without looking at your monitor, though there is of course a computer-based mixer and control panel too. There are two combi mic/line inputs around the back of EVO 4, and one instrument level input at the front for connecting guitar or bass (which then overrides the first input around the back). The interface’s controls are laid out on the front panel, and include input and monitor/headphone selector buttons, a data-entry wheel, and a small colour LCD screen.

There’s no physical on/off switch, but the EVO 16 can be powered down by pressing and holding the main encoder. Marketing director, Andy Allen explains Audient’s thinking: “We believe technology shouldn’t get in the way of the creative process; it should enhance it and be accessible to all, no matter what their skill-level or art-form and EVO is here to help make great-sounding recordings as easy and effortless as possible.Simply put, every adjustment is displayed on the screen in real time, letting the user make changes on the fly and take full control of the recording session without ever needing to look at the computer. Used in concert with the programmable F button, the user can leave the DAW up on their display, and use EVO 16 in a more ‘machine-like’ manner. Bigger sessions demand more channels and expanding your existing audio interface via ADAT might be the most cost-effective solution to scale up your studio,” says Audient/EVO marketing director, Andy Allen. With 25 years of experience behind them, Audient's mic preamps have been designed to deliver the most accurate, clean and true to source version of your audio no matter what you're recording. This makes the Audient Evo 4 the perfect fit for someone who might want to use their tablet as a musical sketchbook while on holiday, or even while on tour.

You can even use the JFET instrument input to plug your bass or electric guitar directly into the EVO 8 and start recording. The EVO 8 audio interface is the successor to the popular EVO 4 - delivering the same instrument/microphone recording quality and high performance - with a suite of new features, 4 outputs, 4 inputs and more. Add to that, intelligent mic preamps that set their own levels with Smartgain, easy to navigate controls, and a powerful range of professional must-have features – EVO 4 isn’t just another audio interface, it’s an entirely new way of doing things. In the studio, every second counts – and with rock solid driver performance, high-speed USB connection, and ultra low latency monitoring, EVO 16 will always deliver the reliability needed to keep up with your creativity. All of EVO 4’s monitoring functions are controlled by a single control knob, including volume control, monitor mix, and monitor pan. Those connections aside, they look to be pretty similar concepts, that is having ‘one focus in mind, to make recording easy! The popular format of input 1 and 2 being on the front is used on this interface but I'd prefer all 8 on the back as this is the best solution when cabling into a rack unless you only ever want to use the front inputs for guitar in the control room. EVO 16 24out Audio Interface - A new way of doing things - EVO 16

My daily driver is a (distinctly premium) Focusrite Red4Pre and I control that almost exclusively front the front panel. Audio Loop-back enables you to capture playback from applications on your computer at the same time as your microphones. If I were looking for this many inputs in an easy to use, high-quality interface on a budget, there’s quite a few options these days.A converter changes a signal from one format to another and in our products you’ll find two kind of converters, an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) and a Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). However, you’ll need to download the PC/Mac Evo software to get your hands on one of the most dynamic features, Loopback.
