There is no doubt that readers will be waiting impatiently on the second, and concluding, volume to this engaging series. It's not one long, drawn-out singular problem (though there is a mystery that threads the entire narrative), but more the ongoing adventures of Marca NBaro and the crew of the Greatship Athens. Artifact Space was one of my favourite novels last year and there has been no news on its sequel - until now!

The military structure that the Athens society works upon is clearly something Marca needs in her troubled life and she is determined to make the most of it, which to me echoes the Heinlein juveniles or something like David Weber’s Honor Harrington series.I still barely understand how ‘insertion’ (this book’s term for ‘hyperspace jumps’) works, but it’s okay.
