About this deal

I hope you enjoyed my ramblings about this new HeroQuest Expansion. Let me know your thoughts on this newest HeroQuest expansion in the comments. For comparison; the Scout = The Scout (from Frozen Horror), the Arbalist = The Crossbowman, the Glaive = The Halberdier, and the Striker = The Swordsman. Who could this new hero be? The speculation has begun. The consensus that I think most have agreed on so far, is that this is an alternate version of the Guardian Knight that was previously released in limited quantity. Important Note: I realized after playing through this scenario that I misread the Channel Dread spell. The caster only gets the perk from adjacent monsters IF the adjacent monster is also capable of casting this spell. This actually makes the spell far less useful if there are fewer Specters on the board. Thanks to the efforts of a very dedicated fan on the HeroQuestFans Discord server, Eudoxio, they were able to get us a closer look at this image by running it through some up-scaling software to extrapolate some of the blurred out features.

Next up is the Guardian Knight, also rolling a 7, he will engage the Dread Warrior as well. The Guardian Knight manages to land just one blow on the Dread Warrior. The final Assassin stands, staring down the Barbarian and the Guardian Knight. The Barbarian lunges forward, but the blow glances off the Assassins blade. The Guardian Knight leaps forward, blade connecting, but not enough to fatally wound the Assassin. The Wizard, come out of his daze, a vengeful cry from his lips, unleashes a Genie at the Assassin. The Genie tears through its target, leaving nothing behind. Here’s my question! If he’s got a sword in one hand and shield in the other, what hand is he using to cast a spell!? Does the spell come out of his face? HeroQuest, the revitalised dungeon-crawler board game, will cap off the first major narrative since its relaunch in 2020 with new expansion Rise of the Dread Moon.

Product Added

We can definitely make out “Rise of the Dread”, unfortunately the rest is obscured. The full title can be seen on the side of the box, but it is too small to make out. Poison! (FH, text is re-arranged and simplified but same basic description, identical mechanic and artwork)

The Specter has the ability to cast the Dread Spell “Channel Dread” at will. At the very least, this means it can cast the spell once every turn. The “At Will” part may be a little confusing. Can this monster cast the spell outside of Zargon’s turn? I don’t think so, but we’ll have to wait to see if this is specified in the Quest Book.

Heroquest Rise of the Dread Moon announcement

A trip down memory lane, remembering the Frozen Horror reveal during the previous years Hasbro PulseCon livestream. Looking a little closer, that’s not the Frozen Horror! This is a screenshot of the previous PulseCon, but it’s been tampered with. Speaking of a travelling merchant, we have Strangers. It’s possible that one of these Stranger tokens could be used as a merchant for the Underground Market in a Hideout. Strangers are described as “people who are not clearly friend or foe…”, this could mean anything. We’ll have to wait and see how this is used in the quests. Mercenaries & Reputation How does one gain Reputation? Reputation is gain as a group, and can be spent as a group. Reputation should be gained 1 for each quest completed. So, this new minion of Zargon has a sword, a shield, and the power to cast Ball of Flame, and Tempest once per quest.
