About this deal

The result is a unique gin that encompasses every inch of its name, which translates to “The Beauty of the Seasons.” Alongside citrus, tea, and herbal flavors comes a spicy edge from the ginger root added during the distillation process. There are more than 350 distilleries in the UK alone and plenty more across the world, showing that England’s national spirit is a popular choice no matter which hemisphere you find yourself in. But then there’s the Farmers Strength Martini. Let’s take a moment for the Farmers Strength Martini…the classic sensibilities of the gin and heightened ABV are made for this serve! Bols 100% Malt Spirit takes the neutral grain spirits out of the equation. The brand calls it "genever in its purest form," created from a distillate of corn, rye, and wheat that is fermented for longer than usual and married with juniper berries. Its taste is that of sweet grass with fruits and juniper. Pink gins, as the name may hint, have a rosy hue to them. This color can come from a number of sources, from the addition of bitters into the gin or the maceration of botanicals and fruits, like strawberries, roses, or pink peppercorns, post-distillation. Thanks to innovation in the non-alcoholic space, there are now plenty of zero-proof gins that mimic the juniper characteristics without the proof, for when you’re craving a negroni or spritz but not the hangover.

Another big difference is the distillation process. Instead of being a simple distillation, like vodka, botanicals are introduced early on during the process to maximize their flavors and aromas. Terminology: The terms to know when talking about gin The first thing that strikes a chord with me about Dog and Spoon Distillery is the charming humour and blunt honesty with which they introduce their brand. Navy Strength: Navy strength gin is the strongest at around 57% ABV. The name comes from the high-strength spirits distilled in the 18th century requested by the Royal Navy. However, the name itself was only coined in the 1990s as a marketing ploy to highlight high-strength spirits. Perhaps that’s because those behind the brand message love their job and know they’ve got a great product. While almost certainly the case, it’s probably more a symptom of the core values and ethos instilled from the outset. This is a distillery for the entire community. There are four main styles of gin. London dry gin is very dry with a strong juniper taste. Plymouth Gin is fruity and aromatic, Old Tom gin is sweeter and smoother than London dry gin. New Western, also called new American gin, new world gin, or international gin, is a gin where the juniper taste is less prominent and calls for an expanded cast of botanicals to make the blend. Genever, a Dutch variation that is the origin of all other gins, is sweet when aged and drier and lighter when young. Now, most farms are known for filling bottles with milk. But ‘Old Mc’Kerr’ opts to fill her bottles with something a little stronger, more juniper led and certainly not semi-skimmed! All of the gins are distilled by Jenny and her good mate Morag – though that’s ‘Morag II’ to you and I, the teams copper still responsible for double distilling a host of traditional botanicals with a native twist. All batches of Wee Farm spirits are then bottled and labelled on the farm for their onward journey. A simple glance at the bottle is enough to recognise that this is going to be something special. Though in a juxtaposition to the power of the liquid within, the subtle and calming colour scheme and pretty pink cherry blossom punctuations across the label could lull you in to a false sense of the demure. But twist the bottle around to its naked side, and you’ll reveal the stunning artwork hidden on the reverse of the label. The dragon emerging from the fierce waters gives a stronger indication of what lays in wait…

Featuring 13 botanicals that combine to provide a careful balance of citrus, thistles, heather, pink peppercorns and allspice, the gin aims to celebrate provenance of the Scottish landscape as well as being “the perfect gin to compliment a good Scotch steak”. Distilled in Cheshire, England, Bombay Sapphire's full list of vapor-infused botanicals include juniper, almond, grains of paradise, lemon peel, licorice, orris root, angelica, coriander, cassia bark, and cubeb berries. It's old meets new with this gin. While the brand is relatively young, having launched in 1987, the beautiful array is based on a recipe from 1761. If you enjoy the standard bottle of Beefeater, keep an eye out for the brand's special bottlings. They make an appearance from time to time, and each is worth a taste when the bottle crosses yourpath. Beefeater 24, for example, is a regular offering that is a nice upgrade from the original and the brand often comes out with limited editions. Where Valhalla is a beautiful sipping gin, Thought & Memory is stunning as a longer drink – and it makes a mean G&T.Botanicals: Seeds, berries, roots, fruits, and herbs are used in the distillation process for flavoring the gin. The aromatic compounds (usually oils) are released during this process to create the unique makeup of the bottle.

Aviation's choice of a rye base gives this gin a creamier mouthfeel than most gins. It is a gin that you can enjoy chilled on its own, which is great news for super dry martini fans. And let me tell you, this makes for a stunningly good G&T! Again, an audible wow was uttered. The light tonic allows more of those freshly sliced apples and pears to burst forwards, with a crunch of sweet rhubarb and kiss of watermelon like freshness. It’s crisp, refreshing and perfect for the spring weather! So would this be the ‘best lesson ever’ or red faces all round? Pay attention now, the class is about to begin… This is the signature gin used to make a Sapphire martinias well as the Sapphire alpine. The two blue martinis use blue curaçao to get that beautiful color, and they're a delight to drink. On the bottom of the bottle there’s a hidden message in Latin – “Esse Quam Videri”, which means “to be, rather than to seem”.

Some 16 years later (112 in dog years) and an arrival appeared on my doorstep with the promise of being ‘mans best friend’, but without the penchant for baked goods… I'm a 30 something year old Gin enthusiast, Birmingham born & bred, and now living in Leeds with my beautiful (and eternally patient) Wife Emily. Aviation American Gincame to market in 2006. It was one of the first brands to launch that made everyone rethink the definition of gin. It was at the forefront of the New Western Gin movement, featuring a softer juniper profile and gins that are often handcrafted in small batches. This gin revolution has brought the spirit's appeal to a wider audience of drinkers. Spirit Works doesn’t just distill gin; it offers a whole portfolio of spirits, including vodka, whisky, barrel gin, and sloe gin. While some might assume that this works to its disadvantage when it comes to honing the fine details of spirit crafting, it’s not a problem that Spirit Works has suffered from.
