This insightful book focuses on how healthcare professionals deal with medical errors and their potential for forgiveness, reconciliation, and healing. With an in-depth analysis of case studies, it draws upon medical ethics, legal principles, and sociological research to consider the challenging ethical issues related to forgiving mistakes. I Don’t Want to Talk About It by Terrence Real But what, I wonder, about vegans? “You’re just going to have to work a lot harder and pay attention to amino acid quality,” he says. The biggest correlated predictor of longevity number that we have is VO2 max. Dr Attia says his goal is to get to the top 2 percentile of VO2 max for his age. I love this, and this is my new goal in life. My Garmin watch says I'm 90th percentile, so I have more to climb! That you may already suffer from an extremely common yet underdiagnosed liver condition that could be a precursor to the chronic diseases of aging. When we think of extending our lifespans, we think a lot about our physical health —how well our bodies function. And that’s important, but just as important is our mental health. Throughout our lives, we experience different stressors that can cause strain on our mental health. When we start to experience those mental health issues, we “die” in a sense. Dr. Peter’s goal is to reduce those early “deaths” as much as possible.

What sets "Outlive" apart is its comprehensive approach. Dr. Peter Attia is a medical doctor and entrepreneur committed to improving his patients’ health span by applying the principles of Medicine 3.0. He is the founder of Early Medical, a medical practice that uses the latest medical advancements to extend patients’ lifespans while simultaneously improving their overall health and well-being. Attia has a chapter giving advice in Tim Ferriss' book Tools of Titans. He had a central role in Limitless, a six-part documentary for National Geographic and Disney+ starring Chris Hemsworth and directed by noted filmmaker Darren Aronofsky. In episode 3, Attia revealed to Hemsworth that he carried the high-risk APOE4 allele, which places him at elevated risk of neurodegenerative aging of the Alzheimer's type. [13] In Outlive, Peter Attia explores the science of not just prolonging life, but also prolonging aliveness. Attia makes the crucial connection between overall health and relational health. Esther Perel, New York Times bestselling author, psychotherapist, and podcast host of Where Should We Begin? When we eat, our bodies naturally raise our temperature — it’s just part of the digestion process. But when we sleep, it’s best for our bodies to be cold — when we sleep cooler, we get more rejuvenating sleep. So, if we can stop eating a few hours before bedtime, we’ll get better sleep, our bodies will process the glucose we consume, and we can avoid Type 2 diabetes.

Many leading longevity experts associate eating less with a longer life. Why? It reduces your risk of neurodegenerative disease (like Alzheimer’s), cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Plus, eating less, through specific mechanisms like caloric restriction, dietary restriction, and fasting, can trigger autophagy—a process that recycles damaged cell parts that’s linked to a longer, healthier life ( 1). In addition to training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Peter also spent two years at the National Institutes of Health as a surgical oncology fellow at the National Cancer Institute , where his research focused on immune-based therapies for melanoma. He has since been mentored by some of the most experienced and innovative lipidologists, endocrinologists, gynecologists, sleep physiologists, and longevity scientists in the United States and Canada. With vivid detail and fascinating insights, Harari takes readers on an intellectual journey spanning thousands of years. The Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben Horowitz For all its successes, mainstream medicine has failed to make much progress against the diseases of aging that kill most people: heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and type 2 diabetes. Too often, it intervenes with treatments too late to help, prolonging lifespan at the expense of healthspan, or quality of life. Dr. Attia believes we must replace this outdated framework with a personalized, proactive strategy for longevity, one where we take action now, rather than waiting.

The Buddha said, “To keep the body in good health is a duty … otherwise we shall not be able to keep the mind strong and clear.” And Tony Robbins said, “The human body is the best picture of the human soul.” This was kind of like a less fun and more rambly version of sleep book plus obesity code, with more detail about exercise added.

The book chronicles the journey of a successful news anchor as he discovers the power of mindfulness. What companies does Peter Attia invest in?

Alcohol is one of my weaknesses as I love a nice bottle of wine with a nice dinner. And I've listened to podcasts on the topic and read a book about it: Drink. My French teacher (and most French in general) swear that a small amount of wine is good for you, but the science is clear - alcohol is a net negative even in small amounts. But small amounts is much better for you than large amounts, and so if you are going to drink, Dr Attia recommends: I like the idea that we should think about our future health goals and be more proactive about setting ourselves up well before problems actually occur, but this point could’ve been made in way less space. Comments that harass other posters will be deleted. Please be respectful toward other contributors. But mostly and overall, it's a strong case for living healthy now. If we are healthy now, we can find all kinds of things in the future to look forward to doing. One thing I didn't know is you can't overeat protein - if you do so your body just excretes it. However if you overeat carbs or fats your body has to store those, and this is the major cause of weight gain. His chapter on how to measure your blood results and eat healthier was nothing new but a good overview.
