About this deal

The out-of-box settings needs tweaking, and if you’re not interested or au fait with this side of TV set-up, you may not like the image the TCL initially offers. The TCL C735 is a good all-round workhorse TV designed to be used in normal lighting conditions and offers a good selection of connectivity, gaming features, HDR compatibility and smart TV. Used in this manner it comes recommended and has been scored with the market position and cost in mind vs. performance.

TCL unveils new 4K C-Series Mini LED and QLED TVs

In fact, the 55C735K even supports the Dolby Vision IQ system, where the advanced Dolby Vision picture settings can automatically adjust themselves to compensate for the amount of ambient light in your room so that you still get the right level of HDR impact. The TCL C715 supports Dolby Atmos, but it isn’t the over your head surround sound kind. Still, with Atmos/5.1 content (The Amazing Spider-Man, Passengers, Skyfall), there’s a sense of height as Spider-Man swings through New York. And, as Bond sets after assassins at the beginning of Skyfall, the sound is convincingly expansive, clear and detailed, offering some decent welly as things get hectic. Because of these gremlins, first impressions are mixed, with some strong contrast and vibrancy potential being undermined by some crushing of details in dark areas and overwrought colours. The TV’s first mistake is only providing three main picture presets: Vivid, Low Power and Movie. This really doesn’t leave viewers with enough easy options to get to a well-balanced picture they like, with each preset exhibiting enough issues to make TCL’s decision not to include some kind of Standard preset that sits somewhere between the Vivid and Movie settings seem pretty bizarre. Calling in Onkyo to help out the 65C815K’s sound quality results in an impressive audio performance for such an affordable TV. TCL hasn't been shy in promoting the gaming-friendly features of the likes of the C73K, with screens starting from 43-inches. Introducing the C935U, P733W and S522W SoundbarsThe 65C815K’s pictures are… complicated. A unique mix of unexpected strengths and more predictable weaknesses. With the ONKYO speakers, viewers can enjoy immersive Dolby Atmos sound quality on the TV or pass it to a TCL Sound Bar. There's a bezel less design with a matching central stand allowing the TV to fit on any surface at home. Release Date Upscaling of sub-4K content is solid, although not the sharpest and with an element of noise. I don’t think it’s worth changing the Noise Reduction levels, however; the Auto setting looks too smooth and blurry. Fine detail can be a touch soft, depending on what you’re watching, but the TCL puts in a satisfying image. The 55C735K’s pictures also have a nice 4K snap to them once the shadow detail and colour crush issues have been sorted out, and this holds up, too, when there’s movement in the frame, thanks to some impressively blur- and judder-free motion handling.

Trusted Reviews TCL C715 (55C715K) Review: QLED TV on a budget - Trusted Reviews

Android TVTM with Google AssistantTM built-in provides access to your favourite streaming services, apps and games Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 50% white outputPercentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output The rear does suddenly become chunkier a few inches in from those super-svelte edges, but even then the set wears this extra area of bulk quite nicely. The chunkier area doesn’t just house the screen’s processors and connections; it also provides space for TCL to build in a strikingly large rear-facing bass driver – again adorned by the Onkyo logo. The most glaring example of this mixed-bag performance comes from its colours. With some sources and settings its QLED-driven colours are strikingly good, achieving saturations and volumes seldom if ever seen at the 65C815K’s price point. But at other times its colours go what’s probably best described as ‘off road’. Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output At this price, sound quality is often flat and uninspiring – but TCL’s down-firing full-range speakers sound pretty good.
