About this deal

In this hilarious, non-fiction book from writer-historian Greg Jenner, history is made both fun and relevant. History isn’t only found in fancy museums, nor does it have to be about ancient royalty, historical figures, or inventors. History is also about you and me, and the very things we see and use every day! Greg Jenner (born 1982) is a British author and public historian with a particular interest in communicating history through pop culture and humour. [1] Early life [ edit ]

Whilst doing work experience on Days That Shook the World at Lion TV , however, Jenner felt he had found his answer in historical consultancy. For a few years he continued working on documentaries and period dramas before happening to overhear Lion’s Chief Creative Officer saying they had the television rights to Terry Deary’s series of history books for children. He later headed a larger team of historians.

After thinking for a moment for a more anthropological reason, he does not disappoint: “We don’t want dramas about inflationary crises and global warming disasters. We want to be reassured that people in bonnets are going to fall in love. The Oxford festival is the most elegant and atmospheric of literary festivals. It’s a pleasure to both attend and perform there.I loved the whole atmosphere of the Oxford Literary Festival. From breakfast, alongside some of the attendees, who were talking books with each other a mile a minute, to the public event at The Sheldonian where everyone was lively and engaged – I felt I had arrived in a kind of literary heaven. I fear my inner nerd is on the loose, but this book was so excellent - I absolutely loved learning about the history of (pretty boring and bog standard) household objects (including cats!) and every day items we use (cars, toilets, soap etc). Alongside the factual information on each item there are amusing facts and amazing illustrations. The text is never boring and is written to the right level and in an easy to understand manner without belittling the reader.
