About this deal

Citrus trees need balanced nourishment in summer and winter so top up soil with the nutrients of our winter citrus feed every few waterings for an extra boost. It will help aid your tree in growing a strong crop of fruits and protects the foliage during colder months. In the summer (April until September), citrus trees benefit from a higher nitrate food, we use our own formula summer citrus feed every week to encourage growth. In winter they require a different feed that is more balanced to encourage fruit and flowers, so we feed them our own mix winter citrus feed fortnightly from October until March. The fruit of this tree is long and thin, and “finger” sized and ripens in winter. When you open it up you will see the capsules inside – just like a pomegranate. Some call it “lime caviar”.

Citrus Feed for Summer Soluble Plant Feeds, Vitax Citrus Feed for Summer Soluble Plant Feeds,

Taking great care of your lemon trees will ensure copious rewards. The fragrant flowers can bloom throughout the year and the fruits can ripen in any season. Light: Citrus plants can cope with our outdoor and glasshouse light levels but should be given a high level of light indoors (either through windows or artificial lighting) being careful not to allow leaf burn in direct summer sun through glass. Most newly bought citrus plants can be kept in their original pot for several years. But if you wish to transfer a plant into a different or more attractive container, choose one that is a similar size and try to disturb the roots as little as possible. The container should be only slightly larger than the rootball. Avoid moving citrus plants into a pot that is a lot larger, as this can hinder rather than help them. Keep an eye out for any hard frosts and remember it’s not the leaves you need to worry about but the rootball – this must not freeze!Garden tip: When feeding, allow some runoff to appear and remove any runoff from saucers - avoid leaving the pots sitting in excess feed.

Citrus / RHS Gardening

Citrus plants won’t reliably survive winters outdoors, even in the warmest parts of the UK, but when grown in containers they can be kept in a greenhouse, conservatory or glazed porch over winter, then moved outdoors in summer into a sunny, sheltered spot.Citrus are frost tender plants and temperatures below 7°C (45°F) may cause damage or even death. For this reason, in most parts of the UK, it is best to grow citrus in containers that can be moved to a warmer position over winter. Citrus trees do not tolerate being left sitting in water; if left too long then the roots will begin to rot.

5. Treat early for Pests

Citrus trees are hungry plants, so feed regularly during the growing season. From mid-spring to mid-autumn, tomato feed or liquid seaweed solution is ideal. In winter, use a winter citrus feed once a month.
