About this deal

Some children with eczema find their skin gets better in the sun, but this is not true of all cases, with itch and rash often getting worse for some children in sunny weather. Always read the label and follow the directions for use. Avoid prolonged sun exposure and wear protective clothing, hats and eyewear to further reduce risk. Frequent re-application is required. I’ve reviewed before and stated how unhappy I was that the formula for the sunscreen had changed. Well guess what? They’ve now changed the formula for the KIDS version of the sunscreen too. Adding the same horrible ingredient that damages marine life and ocean reefs. While other sunscreens are slowly having this removed - Nivea for starters - because they recognise how harmful it is to our oceans. Sunsense must have decided that something else is more important. My guess is cost of production. It’s a crying shame that a supposed decent brand has gone down this route. People usually blame their sun cream. Our dermatology nurses advise you try a supermarket own brand cream first, as more expensive creams have more ingredients, such as fragrances, which have more potential to cause reactions. Many families manage to identify a cream that suits their child but you should not rely on word of mouth, as the same cream will suit some children but cause reactions in other children! Patients who receive SunSense SPF50+ products on prescription are advised to consult their doctor for a suitable replacement. Currently, the following Uvistatsunscreens are available on prescription to anyone who suffers from light sensitivity (including all lupus patients):

Many people with eczema seem to find that mineral-based sunscreens are less irritating to their skin than chemical absorbers. I've been using Sun Sense SPF 50, 500ml dispenser for several years. I have used it every day on the recommendation of my dermatologist to cover all exposed parts of my body due to having developed very sensitive skin and a melanoma in 2018. I bought sun sense anti ageing factor 50 as I thought it would do the job of a moisturiser as well as a sun protector. I used it for 4 days, but my skin became very red, itchy and sore so I discontinued use. However, there are some pointers that families can follow to give them a better chance of finding the right one.

Try not to rub too hard when applying, as this may set off itching. Spray sunscreens are generally easier to apply and require less rubbing Most people don’t put enough cream on to achieve the protection stated on the bottle! Be generous, apply every couple of hours, or more frequently if swimming or sweating a lot.

SunSense Sensitive SPF50+ - SunSense

This dual-purpose sun cream combines the anti-ageing benefits of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) with broad spectrum protection to leave skin feeling fresh. Contains Niacinamide – helping to maintain the normal skin barrier function and improving the appearance of skin tone and texture Unfortunately the factor 50 tinted face sun cream peels off regardless of how I wash or moisturise my face. I bought some tubes for my Mum as well and she has experienced the same. I'm disappointed as I like the company and delivery and service were good, and somewhat surprised as this brand was recommended by a melanoma charity. Will likely try another brand next time I'm in need of sun cream. It is important to continue applying your eczema treatments, particularly regular moisturizers, even if the skin doesn’t look dry, as exposure to the sun will dry out your child’s skin. Apply your child’s emollient about half an hour before applying sunscreen (this will prevent the sunscreen from becoming diluted and less protective). The National Eczema Society (NES) says parents should consider the same things that you would when choosing an emollient - for example, it is recommended that you avoid fragrance and other ingredients that are commonly associated with sensitisation.
