What would happen if I posted 'lines for sale' on classifieds here, and started a thread on the salmon forum called 'lines available on fff' with a link to the post on here?"First of all after reading the June reports in the latest T&S I find it almost impossible to comprehend even with low water that a river like the Dovey had barely nothing to report in June A month that all over the U.K. would see fish well spread out by then and in the case of the Dovey the catches were too innumerable to mention anything less than three pounds I have asked WUF for their observations on this and whether or not they will make representation to the EA on behalf of the angling community, not that hopeful of any action from them judging by past history but somebody has to represent the river users !! The World Salmon Forum’s mission is to sustain wild Atlantic and Pacific salmon, seatrout, and steelhead populations for the future. Salmon diversity and abundance are a gift from the past through millions of years of evolution and adaptation. Our collective stewardship should ensure that wild salmon remain a legacy for future generations. The latest problem and major issue we have is the building of Hinkley Point power station om the Somerset coastline. It is my understanding that a majority of the salmon travelling to the Severn Wye and Usk make their way through these waters. The original planning application include sonar devices placed underwater to deter fish from the area, EDF , the builders of the nuclear power station are now seeking change the original planning application to remove the fish sonar as they no longer consider them necessary and are in discussions with the EA on getting permission to do this.

At the suggestion of various members and given the magazines will run a mile from criticising a piece of kit, here is your chance to tell us what you really think about a rod, reel, line, lure... keep it legal please! I had a walk at the Green bus at Barvas. Have seen it on the telly and in books before and was amazed how short the pool is between loch and sea. Must be great to see fish attempting to come in on the tide. Traditional Irish salmon flies, commissioned one hundred and twenty years ago for the Cork International Exhibition in 1902, are set to feature in a new historical picture book to mark ‘World Book Day’. The answer to both was - I genuinely don't know I shared this with some friends and in part the reason why I found them so hard to answer is that every fish is memorable, every day a treasure, every trip a journey into the unknown. I'll only know the answers when I hang my rods up for good, which I hope is many, many seasons from now.

World Salmon Forum

This is a seldom openly discussed but important part of salmon fly fishing set up so here's my own analysis of the facts as far as I see it on weight and length of salmon leaders, sink tips and which leader material will never let you down. Are Salmon Leader Shy? I’ve only fished a few rivers myself, and not many in ideal conditions, but I keep hearing the same rivers mentioned by others…. This forum is for general discussion related to Angling. Areas covered would include Media Reports, Conservation Issues and the promotion of the sport. I suppose I can only answer with what I think, given I haven’t fished these rivers I’m gonna mention?

Drop by and have a chat, maybe have a cast with the latest S-glass rods (perfect for huge predators or delicate dry-fly presentations)? Or just cuddle up with a carp & chill out with some awesome fishing movies😎 Wild salmon populations in both the Atlantic and Pacific basins have declined dramatically over the last century and many populations are at imminent risk of extinction. The World Salmon Forum (WSF) brings together a coalition of scientists, advocates, and foundations dedicated to sustaining wild salmon. WSF will challenge the way in which salmon are managed and investigate the science required to underpin effective management. So I’d still like to say the Dovey but from what I can gather and have noticed for the past five years is that the river Spey has so many large accidentally caught sea trout from May onwards and still seems to have good night fishing in June for those who still take a week on Grantown, that I’m inclined to think it may be the Spey. The first was 'how many different species have you caught on the fly ' with the follow up question ' and which was your favourite ' The single greatest fly angling achievement for sea trout took place on the Ribble in June 2005 I think it was?

No doubt there is a multitude of factors... predators, forestation, road run off, pollution and over fishing at sea and dont get me started on 'Fish Farms"... the list goes on and on! I have now recategorised salmon fishing as “fishing” and take both a trout rod and sea trout rod with me. I just want to be out and with a chance of catching something. That's my copy of Fly Culture Magazine popped through the letter box this morning, I'm looking forward to sitting down with it. The bulk and weight of a salmon fly leader should be selected based on the bulk and weight of the salmon fly being used. The art of effectively & effortlessly 'turning over' a salmon fly is 100% to do with energy transfer to the fly after the forward delivery power stroke of the cast has been applied. In other words a very light or limp leader will struggle to make that energy transfer effective all the way to a salmon fly if the leader has not been selected with the bulk and weight of the salmon fly being used.
