The thing in the story I did not enjoy before the animals sailed to Britannia was the language because whilst the author described the animals lives, the words were not very imaginative. I enjoyed this book because it was really funny in some of the parts of the book. I particularly liked the character Brutus because he was the funniest character in the book. The book did seem realistic because of all the facts, but not Julius, his brother,mum,friends, Imhotep and Hadrian who were all fictional. I would love to read more books by this author because I really enjoyed The 'Entangled with the Egyptians' book because it was extremely funny and I really enjoyed reading it. FINALLY, finally I had a chance to read this book. It was in Dutch, which is a bit eh, but I am still so so happy that I finally had the chance to read this one that I actually don't care. Now I can finally find out what happened to Julius, how he met his friends, how they got captured, how they turned in awesome gladiators. Squee!

This book asks you so many questions and gives so many answers which is good! I love this book so much I want to buy them all. I think Gary Northfield is an amazing writer.I thought this book was fabulousJ. My favourite scene was when they were on the ship because it was dramatic and intense. I thought the history in the book was a little bit true and it makes me want to know more about ancient Egypt. It makes me want to read more of Gary Northfield's books.

Julius je zebrí mladík, ktorý si chce robiť veci po svojom. Pri návšteve jazierka sa zatúla ďaleko od svojho stáda a nešťastnou náhodou skončí v rukách Rimanov. Po dlhej ceste z Afriky až do Ríma je aj s ostatnými zvieratami vhodený do Kolosea, kde preukáže veľkú odvahu a cisár Hadrián mu udelí šancu vybojovať si slobodu. Julius spolu so svojimi zvieracími priateľmi trénuje v gladiátorskej škole, ktorá ho má pripraviť na veľké hry. Podarí sa mu poraziť slávnych gladiátorov a vybojovať si svoju slobodu?I would want to read more books from this author if his other books are like this. Julius Zebra is a very good. It’s funny and teaches you a lot about history at the same time. He decides he is going home on his own, despite the warnings of being alone from an annoying know-it-all warthog that sees him. Suddenly they are both caught up in a stampede. There is a stalking lion nearby. Julius and the warthog escape up a hill, only to fall into a deep dark pit – with the lion! I would recommend this book to children the same age as me so that they can learn about Romans and become interested in them like me. I've studied the Egyptians at school and the history rang true although I wasn't quite sure if it's really true that Heter was a real horse God, although there was a statue of him.

What happens when you mix the gladiatorial combat of ancient Rome with a fast-talking creature who is DEFINITELY NOT A STRIPY HORSE?My favourite character in the book is Lucia, she is extremely brave, she even tried to escape Septimus with her friends, although sadly it failed. I think this book is funny because it keeps saying ‘bottom’ (he he!) My fave part is when Julius gets plopped on the Colosseum sand. (Freya, 8) The story, how Julius and his friends come to Rome and what happens until their big fight for freedom is indeed bonkers and fast-paced (as promised on the book cover). For me this story was a wild rollercoaster ride through the ancient Rome with twists and turns. It was great fun reading it. This will be popular with students who like text broken up and easy-to-read chapters. In a story typical of many children's books, a main character doesn't quite fit in with his family and tries to get away by himself. Unfortunately though, Julius is a zebra living in Roman times, and is captured and sent to Rome to perform in the arena for Hadrian.
