While, yes, the Firefly license defiantly helps sell this game, overall Firefly is a well-designed game that’s also a lot of fun. And for me, that’s a sigh of relief. Nothing is worse than getting a game based on a subject matter you enjoy and finding out it’s nothing but a shallow box of cards with no game play to speak of ( World War Z I’m looking at you). Firefly boasts a range of expansions to add even more to your game. Firefly: The Game isn’t the first board game based on a TV show we’ve reviewed here on Board Game Quest. A while ago we took a look at the Battlestar Galactica board game (spoiler alert: it’s phenomenal) and were able to state that you don’t have to be a fan of the show to love the board game. Does Firefly fall into the same mold? I’d say yes, but not as strongly.

This offers a nice variety dependent on your of your group’s preferred playstyle.

The Firefly Board Game will be an amazing gaming experience for you if you already love the Firefly series. A lot of the enjoyment comes from being able to explore the environment that you loved from the shows in a new way. If you’re not a huge Firefly fan, then the game is still fun and worth a play, but it’s probably not going to blow your mind. The more illegal jobs you take, the more immoral you become. Sometimes, crew members can also be disgruntled by immoral jobs. Want everything together, but not have to keep 3 different boards in place beside one another, as well as making the change to the original board at Harvest? This mat is for you! Lovely quality, pleasure to play on. I think the game is great. If you’re still doubting about it, try to play it somewhere and then buy it. Its somewhat complicated for beginners and usually takes like 3-5 hours. So if you only like short games this is not for you. But for others its great and the available expansions add more cool stuff to this great game 😉
