Every year the Fiesta has an official charity partner and this year it is the Teenage Cancer Trust. Parking proceeds benefit our non-profit event volunteers from both the THS Breakfast Rotary & THS Athletic Boosters. Parking fee does not include admission into the Festival. Hot air balloons were inflated in the city centre this morning (July 20) as part of the launch of Bristol International Balloon Fiesta 2023. The festival takes place from August 10 to 13 and ahead of it, organisers brought some of the balloons to the city. What's more, a super moon surprised those who had got up early to enjoy the AM mass ascents, which begin at around 6am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning, making for some stunning photo opportunities.

The Bristol International Balloon Fiesta got underway this weekend at Ashton Court and, while not a single evening mass ascent was able to take place due to the extremely hot weather, hundreds of hot air balloons took to the skies above Bristol each morning - a relief for pilots, organisers and visitors alike. While it was a very early start, people still got up to Lloyds Amphitheatre to watch the hot air balloons being inflated.

The event has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1979, when just 27 balloons appeared in the first mass ascent, and has become Europe’s largest free annual hot air balloon festival. If there is to be an issue it looks as if it could be caused by wind, as ballooning requires just a light breeze. The Northampton Balloon Festival returned to its original home at the Racecourse this weekend after a 15-year hiatus.Drawing over 900,000 visitors and 600 pilots fromseven countries over a nine-day period, this is the largest and longest-running balloon festival in the country. It is a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle to watch over 500 hot air and gas-filled balloons shaped as animals, characters and cultural symbols ascend over the Sandia Mountains and New Mexico deserts. While you're not guaranteed to see balloons from the harbourside, if the wind is blowing in the right direction balloons often travel over the very centre of Bristol.
