About this deal

Given the poor showing with the ice, I thought for sure that there would be nothing redeeming in the margarita. But I was wrong, there actually is something interesting here. Light amber color & a light agave, slight oak initial taste. I found the light/medium body & smoothness to be the highest qualities of this spirit. The finish was short/medium with traces of cooked agave & a little aging. Still a decent tequila but not great! Blanco is El Jimador’s take on silver tequila or tequila that hasn’t spent any time ageing in oak barrels. Because of that, this vibrant tequila is fresh and crystal clear.

Another important brand is el Jimador, launched in 1994 and named after those who harvest agave plants. [11] el Jimador is 100% agave tequila. [12] It is currently the best-selling tequila in Mexico, with a twelve percent market share. [12] [13] Reposado means rested – neither too long nor brief. Made from 100% pure agave, Tequila el Jimador Reposado is aged two months to its moment of maturity, el Jimador is rewarded by all of Mexico as its #1 tequila. El Jimador is a classic take on Mexican tequila, and it is easy to see why. Although they only offer three tequila styles, each is an incredible taste journey with a distinctive and refreshing flavour profile. Drinks Geek is run by Andrew & Ingrid, two drinks enthusiasts with 30 years of experience and an all-consuming passion for both fragrance and flavour.

What truly sets this blanco tequila apart from rival brands is its smoothness. Despite not being aged, El Jimador Blanco is as smooth and easy to drink as another distiller’s reposado variant and mixes well. On The Nose Short, peppery, some heat - but very little compared to e.g. DJ anejo - a mild numbess and a very distant, well-distributed but not overpowering alcohol burn. There's some wood there, and - interestingly - the agave and fruitiness from the initial return for a second finish a few seconds later! Thirty-One Whiskey is a blog devoted to the appreciation of good whiskey, fine cigars, and the value of a hard day’s work in the wood shop. El Jimador Añejo spends an entire year ageing in American oak barrels, lending it an unrivalled soft and sweet taste, plus a rich dark amber colour. This tequila is rich, full-bodied, and can make any occasion special. On The Nose a b c d e f g "La Familia". Jalisco, Mexico: Grupo Industrial Herradura. Archived from the original on November 25, 2012 . Retrieved November 17, 2012.

This top-of-the-line Añejo tequila from El Jimador never fails to impress. Whilt not as rich as the more expensive Don Julio Añejo, this year-aged tequila remains a bargain. El Jimador offers a diverse menu that includes traditional tacos, burritos, enchiladas, even seafood and steaks that have that extra touch that only Mexican food has.

As with all Herradura tequila, this starts as a crop of blue agave plants which are harvested and have their leaves removed. What remains is the tough and fibrous core of the plant, which is cooked in an oven to convert those fibers into sugar. The plants are then crushed to release the fluid, and that fluid is fermented to convert the sugar into alcohol. At this point, it is distilled three times to create the new blanco tequila.

It was Aurelio who would give the distillery its lasting name of Herradura, named after a horseshoe that he found on the property sometime around 1900. Then, the Cristero War broke out in Mexico in 1926, a conflict where secular factions within Mexico sought to eliminate the power of the Catholic church and impose an atheist state. During this, Aurelio provided financial and material support to the Catholics and, in response, the distillery was raided and he was forced with his family into exile, leaving his cousin Don David in charge of the facility. It was David who resisted following the trend in the 1920’s of producing inferior “mixto” tequila, insisting that Herradura always remain 100% blue agave based. Making tequila is this and so much more. It is in this craft passed down among generations that we find our inspiration, el Jimador, the skilled harvester of the agave plant. From first sip to last, agave, cinnamon and hints of citrus and spice delight the palate. Palate: Sweet vanilla and caramel, woody, with hints of cedar, earth, soft spices, cassia and vegetal agave. Herradura, in 2013 under the sub-label "Colección de la Casa," released in limited areas (Mexico, United States, El Salvador, and Australia), two new Reposado Tequilas partially aged in non-traditional barrels. One Aged in oak than in Port barrels [18] and another partially aged in Cognac barrels as well as traditional oak. A hint of hazelnuts follows while the vegetal note is well-balanced and earthy with a moreish heated finish of agave, oak and spice. Best Served A very slight - but not unpleasant - bitterness/sourness comes through, less so when warmed up somewhat; this is coupled with a slightly diminished continuation of the initial taste, albeit without the fruit. There is a hint of wood in there, with some obvious cooked agave - you can taste the 'cookedness' (struggling to put this into words) of it. There's some mild spice in there too, although I don't find the cinnamon that others have. I do get the butterscotchiness though; it's a very smooth feel. Tequila production on what would become the Herradura distillery started in the early 19th century, started by a man named Feliciano Romo. In 1870, Félix López took over the property and registered it as a legal distillery named Hacienda San José del Refugio. The distillery remained in the family even after Félix’s death in 1878, operated first by his wife and later by her brother, Aurelio López. Like other El Jimador tequilas, Blanco uses only pure Weber blue agave. These notes are present throughout the spirit and are joined on the nose with fresh citrus, vegetal, and light wood aromas. On The Palate

I've no idea how this compares to the mixto version (which I have no desire to try unless by some miracle it is actually better than this), but I can say that it walks all over the other mixtos I've tried.
