About this deal

We used this overnight scar cream on our inner thighs. A tiny dollop goes a long way, and despite being an overnight cream the consistency was fairly lightweight, gliding over the scar in an easy swoop. As it took at least 15 minutes to fully absorb, we had to remind ourselves to give enough time before hopping into bed with the cream on, as it can transfer onto bed sheets easily if not dried. We did notice a bit of a strong scent, which we didn’t adore, but by the time we fell asleep it was impossible to notice. It didn’t tingle or irritate the skin either.

Octocrylene 10% (a common sunscreen ingredient; it may cause allergic reactions in people with sensitive skin) Kelo-Cote is a silicone scar gel that works great on both new and old scars. It’s a clinically tested product that can help you reduce redness after the surgery and flatten and soften the raised scar. Studies have shown that more than 80% of those who used this gel on different scars were very satisfied with the results. Silicone, for example, creates a negative pressure environment on an evolving, new scar that stops collagen from overdeveloping and creating keloids, explains Dr. Palm.

What is bioCorneum plus SPF 30?

Typically, scar treatments contain “ingredients like silicone, vitamin E, and hyaluronic acid, which help to hydrate the skin, promote collagen production, and reduce inflammation,” says Dr. Shokeen. However, if you are looking for specific treatments, like treating keloids, you want to look for ingredients that help reduce not just coloring, but texture as well. The Cimeosil Scar and Laser Gel, which contains polysiloxanes, or silicone, helps to flatten and soften even old scars. Already after one treatment, the scars on our feet caused by surgery were flattened and barely noticeable. With a closer look, you can still see some discoloration and unevenness in the skin, but much less than before. Silicon Dioxide ( reported to be effective and produce 86% reduction in texture, 84% in color and 68% in height of scars) We’re very particular with what we put on our faces, especially because the skin on our face is much more delicate than that on our body, and only a cream intentionally formulated for it should be used there. Therefore, the acne gel we chose to treat our pretty visage was this Cicatricure scar gel.

Chicago dermatologist Danny Del Campo, MD also stands by the belief that “silicone in any topical form is a good start” for treating scars and his star selection can be found in most drugstores. “My go-to is Serica Moisturizing Scar Formula—it has good clinical data, it is easy to find, and it has unique formulations of other ingredients including silicone. I highly recommended it.” In addition to Strataderm and ScarAway sheets, Davie, FL dermatologist Marianna Blyumin-Karasik, MD also lists Serica as a favorite. This Rose-Scented Body Wash Turns My Dingy Shower Into A Spa This Rose-Scented Body Wash Turns My Din… Dr. Rapaport credits the cream’s effectiveness to ingredients like hyaluronic acid, onion extract, and peptides, which she says have all been shown to minimize the appearance of scars and enhance the texture of the skin. Plus, she notes that allowing your skin to absorb the nutrients in the cream overnight aids in its ability to leave you with a healthier, more even complexion.Others come in the form of a gel, but even gels vary in their application processes. The HealFast Physician Formulated Medical-grade Silicone Scar Gel asked to be used three times a day, which meant we needed to carry it around if we left the house during the day. As tedious as that may be, like the name suggests, the scar healed fast, making the time commitment rather worth it. Other gels, like the Mederma Advanced Scar Gel, only needed to be applied once a day, which may feel like a more universal solution. Depending on the type of product you choose, you may need to look out for allergic reactions. Open skin is more sensitive to allergens, says Melanie Palm, MD, a dermatologist at Art of Skin MD. She adds that while silicone-based products are unlikely to cause a reaction, some OTC treatments contain other ingredients that increase the likelihood of a reaction.

The scar we were dealing with is a slightly raised, thin, dark-pink line on the lower belly. After leaving these sheets on day and night (the brand recommends wearing them for up to 24 hours), we saw a significant reduction in the pink color and height of the scar. Throughout the lab testing phase and our research, we also relied on the expertise of several dermatologists and plastic surgeons, both in the Lab phase of our testing and during the research process:
