About this deal

The top bezel houses a cutout that pulls double duty as both earpiece and the other half of the stereo speaker setup. Its grille is divvied up into 10 segments, and sound only comes out of the leftmost six — you can actually see that it’s filled in on the right side. It looks a little weird up close, but it doesn’t impact audio quality.

There's been a long history of celebrated white phones - and Clearly White was a colour that Google used on the Pixel 2, Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 models. But here it's not clearly white, because that Cloudy White bring in some warmth, with the top section slightly darker, like a cloud grey. The frame here is silver, so it looks great. Again, Google has used some of these tones before - the Not Pink Pixel 3 springs to mind, as does the Oh So Orange Pixel 4. Here the top section is what you might immediately associate with coral, the bottom section a lighter hue.Google says that on the Pixel 6 it took inspiration from watch making and jewellery and you'll see that as you look over the colours and design.

Google Pixel 6 colors: every new shade, including those for

Yes. I think the Pixel 6 is the best phone Google's ever built. It punches above its weight in nearly every way: performance is great, build quality is very good, and the cameras positively rip. Google’s software uses the motion of the object you’re taking a photo of to calculate the angle of the blur, and it works surprisingly well on subjects like cars. As you can see from the photo of dogs running, though, it’s not too hard to confuse Action Pan’s algorithm — it has the same trouble with accurate cutouts of organic shapes as portrait mode tends to. What's most impressive about the Pixel 6's modem, however, is its connectivity. We tested it in dozens of urban and rural locations across two states never encountered a poor signal. It consistently reached higher speeds than the iPhone 13 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra we tested in the same locations. Comparing the Google Tensor processor with the popular Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 mobile platform is difficult. Google created the Tensor SoC to realize experiences for Pixel devices that would otherwise be impossible or cumbersome. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888,on the other hand, was developed as a turnkey solution for smartphone manufacturers; it provides plenty of power, but the manufacturer has to figure out exactly how to create experiences within the limitations of the platform. This all happens on the phone itself; it’s not sending your dictation to a server. It’s pretty wild stuff, and as smartphones as a product category continue to mature, this sort of edgewise, incremental software improvement is going to be the path forward.Call quality is excellent. All of our test calls were clear and noise cancellation worked without fail. The in-display speaker tops out at 84dB and is loud enough to hear on a busy street. The stereo speakers on the Pixel 6 are excellent, with a maximum volume of 90dB. They’re loud enough to fill a room and produce an impressive soundstage with mellow timbre. Google's Tensor Chip Isn't About Benchmark Scores It would be an understatement to say Steven Winkelman is obsessed with mobile technology. Since joining PCMag as a mobile analyst in 2019, he’s reviewed over 100 phones and tablets. Before that he covered mobile and wearable tech as a staff writer at Digital Trends. However, I’d like more control over the Pixel 6’s long-exposure mode. There are no settings to tweak, so it’s either you take a long-exposure photo or not. You can’t adjust how long the shutter will stay open, so you can’t tailor the mode to the situation you’re trying to capture.

We tested the Pixel 6 on Verizon’s 5G network in Chicago and recorded admirable speeds, averaging 168Mbps down and 78Mbps up. There's some minor loss of fine detail with the ultrawide lens, but no noticeable distortion (Photo: Steven Winkelman) A 4,614mAh battery powers the Pixel 6. In our early battery drain tests, where we stream HD video over Wi-Fi at full brightness, the phone averaged 23 hours and 11 minutes before shutting down. During a week of regular use, we only needed to charge the phone twice and didn't notice any battery depletion when there wasn't any use. The Pixel 6 supports 30W fast charging via USB-PD 3.0 and compatible third-party adapters. Qi wireless charging maxes out at 12W, but the upcoming Pixel Stand 2 supports fast charging at up to 21W. The phone also features reverse power-sharing capabilities. Sub-6GHz 5G or the Full 5G Experience?

Benchmarks were impressive but, again, not the best indicator of day-to-day performance. On Geekbench 5, a suite of tests that quantifies raw performance, the Pixel 6 easily beat similarly priced competitors. It scored 1,021 single-core (SC) and 2,813 multi-core (MC). For comparison, the Pixel 5a scored 680 SC and 1,952 MC, while the Galaxy A52 managed 645 SC and 1,945 MC on the same test. Android 12 and Future Support The Pixel 6 also doesn’t have a charger in the box, but we have an article that will point you in the right direction to buying the proper adapter you need. It’s only in specific situations, and the severity can range from “who cares” to actively ruining photos. Honestly, in the weeks and months I've used the Pixel 6 as my primary phone, it hasn't ever bothered me — but depending on what you normally take pictures of with your phone, it could be a big issue for you. Google is yet to even officially launch the Pixel 6, and now we’re getting an early unboxing of the Sorta Seafoam model ahead of the October 19 keynote. It worked relatively well on the shot of the river above — the moving water has indeed been blurred. The leaves that overlap the water from the camera’s perspective were even preserved pretty well. But the second photo had people walking through the frame, and it sort of made them look like ghosts. That’s not necessarily a bad thing; real long exposures would behave the same way. But it’s something to look out for.
