About this deal

The day this series ends, I will be disappearing for at least a month trying to make do with the fact that there will be no more new D.I. Callanach in the world. … One for Sorrow taps into the greatest fear you can have as a woman and it exploits and presents it in such a way that can bring you to sob.’ – thebusyshelf.com About the Author, Helen Fields I loved how real this story felt! Its amazing to me really how an author can do what they do. And Helen did the dang thing with this one. The way the author switches point of view from current to 'before' through the chapters was very clever, it worked well for the unveiling of the storyline. I loved how the time lines came together towards the end, brilliantly done. With twists and turns you’ll never see coming, prepare to be gripped by this devastatingly good thriller. Perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride and MJ Arlidge.

Helen Fields’ emotionally-engaging and deeply thought-provoking crime narrative One for Sorrow is a riveting read. Helen Fields studied law at the University of East Anglia, then went on to the Inns of Court School of Law in London. After completing her pupillage, she joined chambers in Middle Temple where she practised criminal and family law for thirteen years. After her second child was born, Helen left the Bar. Together with her husband David, she runs a film production company, acting as script writer and producer. Reading Helen’s books is like catching up with old friends. You’ve missed them, you want to know what they’ve been up to and you want to be there for them when things go wrong. And boy do things go wrong in ONE FOR SORROW! I genuinely feel this is one of the best books I’ve read all year! Ask anyone who knows me and they’ll tell me how over the past 3 days I kept blurting out how much I’m enjoying it and I can’t stop reading - even to those that have no interest in my love affair with books!A lone bomber in Edinburgh is targeting victims but the link is unknown its left to DCI Ava Turner and D I Luc Callanach to solve the case. Tartan Noir luminary Fields, who divides her life between Scotland, England and the US, this week launches the latest novel in her Edinburgh-set crime series featuring handsome, half-Scottish, half-French DI Luc Callanach and tough DCI Ava Turner.

DCI Ava Turner is our protagonist. She is feisty and dedicated, and when a serial bomber turns their attention to those close to her, she is determined to bring the culprit to justice. Written across two timelines the stories are absorbing and compelling, and when they come together they are excellent. The twists and turns are so well written, and the ending superb. Usually I have at least an inkling of the outcome, but not in this case, brilliant! All loose ends came together, but we were still left on a cliffhanger. This case is personal, it cuts deep and Ava is determined to catch this killer by any means necessary. You’re by her side, feeling her sadness, pain and fear. After seven books we really know Luc and Ava, we love them and going through this gave me emotional whiplash. Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced reader's copy of this book. I was not compensated for the review, all opinions are mine. Loved the book. Perfect Remains is the first book in the D.I. Callanach mystery series. In this debut story, readers get the chance to meet the main character for the first time.Fields continues ratcheting up the tension and suspense by drawing readers’ focus to things left unsaid throughout the novel. Most notably, the way she has interspliced Ava and Luc’s frantic present-day hunt for the bomber with the chronological revelation of historical events that led to the bombing spree. Clever writing indeed. A breathtaking thriller with a devastating conclusion. I can't stop thinking about it.’– Bestselling author Susi Holliday In addition to her main characters, Field has a great cast of secondary characters, and it is always nice to catch up with them. Edinburgh also functions as both setting and character. But with the threat – and body count rising –Neither Ava nor Luc know whether they will live long enough to tell the tale… One for Sorrow is compelling and fast-paced as a lone bomber creates chaos in Edinburgh. Luc and Ava are at a loss as to motive, but the deaths are devastating. The bomber targets police and ambulance workers, those who are there to help--adding another degree of horror to the chaos being inflicted.

With twists and turns you’ll never see coming, prepare to be gripped by this devastatingly good thriller. Perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride and MJ Arlidge.Readers are OBSESSED with One For Sorrow! Forensic profiler Dr Connie Woolwine is renowned for her ability to get inside the mind of a murderer. Now she must go deep undercover among the most deranged and dangerous men on earth, and use her unique skills to find the baby – before it’s too late. After another young woman is found butchered, Luc and Ava realise the babydoll killer is playi ng a horrifying game. And it's only a matter of time before he strikes again. Can they stop another victim from being silenced forever I appreciated that I could read this as a standalone but it was clear that this fit in with previous books and a set of well developed characters. I appreciate an author who can write in a way that satisfies new to the series readers and also please fans of the series. This is a dark, psychological thriller that may be hard for some fans of the series to read because of how close Ava and Luc are to the victims. Also, reading about first responders being the target of a crazed mind was sometimes difficult. It is, however, a first-rate mystery. It kept me guessing, often incorrectly, and devouring the book to see if my suspicions were correct. he’s been called in to team up with D.I. Brodie B arda, a kidnapping specialist from London, following the disappearance of a young mother with a wealthy father-in-law. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. More kidnappings follow, brazen and relentless. The Shadow Man watches, waits and takes who he wants when he wants. And the truth behind his crimes is more terrifying than Connie Woolwine has ever encountered before.

The killer is taking his victims in the coldest, most calculating way possible - engineering slow and painful deaths by poison, with his victims entirely unaware of the drugs flooding their bloodstream until it's too late. With twists and turns you’ll never see coming, prepare to be gripped by this devastatingly good thriller. Perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride and MJ Arlidge. Readers are OBSESSED with One For Sorrow! In their jobs, DCI Ava Turner and DI Luc Callanach deal with death every day. But when it becomes clear that every bomb is a trap designe d to kill them too, the possibility of facing it themselves starts to feel all too real. Fans of Angela Marson, Mark Billingham, Val Mcdermid and M. J. Aldridge will be gripped by this chilling journey into the mind of a troubled killer. Wow. Having ended the previous book in this series with Natasha seriously ill with cancer, we open this one with a funeral. A very upsetting start and we finish with yet another cliffhanger. Hope the next book comes soon !I just finished reading One for Sorrow and loved it, but naturally didn’t like the cliffhanger ending. Please tell me there will be another Ava and Luc book. When will it be coming out? I’ve read the rest of them and really loved them and appreciated the writing. Reply Book 7 (!) and I’m utterly hooked. During this series, Helen Fields has crafted not just some amazing plots but some really loveable characters that I for one, look forward to reading about in each book. Technically, Ava and Luc are two characters that you shouldn’t adore. They’re just too perfect! Even their flaws make them endearing. But the way in which Helen writes them makes them inexplicably engaging. I had a massive ‘whoop whoop’ moment on the arrival of Connie Woolwine! Parlabane found the word 'pro-active' enormously useful, as it immediately exposed the speaker as an irredeemable arsehole, whatever previous impression might have been given. Once upon a time, he remembered, people and companies just did things. But that ceased to be impressive enough, and for a while they 'actively' did things. Now they 'pro-actively' did things, but it was still the same bloody things that they were doing when they just plain old did things. Meaningless wank-language.”
