During some self-reflection when he was still working in A&E, George says he realised he wasn’t practising what he preached. "I thought, ‘I’m here talking about finding balance and looking after your own mental health, and I’m actually damaging my own mental health by doing too much." The NHS, in collaboration with the Department for Education, has also overseen the introduction of over 180 Mental Health Support Teams in England, with more currently in training.

There are lots of different ways that you can support us. We're a charity and we couldn't continue our work without your help. Right now young people need a voice in government, and I hope that through this role I can advocate for meaningful change in this area. Lana, YoungMinds Activist, says: “It was an absolute privilege to be given the opportunity to talk to the Prime Minister and Dr Alex on a topic I’m so passionate about - I can’t wait to see what the future of children and young people’s mental health holds!” Emma Thomas, Chief Executive of YoungMinds, says: It’s so important the Prime Minister hears directly from young people, because sometimes we are not involved in conversations, which concern us and our futures. This opportunity will allow us as young people to not just be heard, but also make important contributions to such an important issue.” Paul Farmer, Chief Executive of Mind, says:

Self-worth is often so tied up with the roles we have in our careers, so it was a difficult decision to leave, he says. "Since the age of 12 or 13, I’d wanted to be a doctor. You sacrifice a lot, university is tough, I worked in King’s College Hospital then Lewisham Hospital [London].
