Ok so. I haven't read a one-shot before. But coming from the author of Chainsaw Man I had to give it a try. And for my surprise, it was so worth it!

First of all, many already love him, so most don't talk about it, but Fujimoto's style is pretty scribbly. I love it because of that, but I can see it totally affecting his own self-esteem as an artist when he was young. And so he writes Fujino, the main character of the story. While her friends love her manga because it's clever and fun, she gets discouraged when another Fujimoto illustrated the cover of the novels anthology 5-Minute Stories: An Unexpected End ( 5分で読める驚愕のラストの物語, Gofun de Yomeru Kyōgaku no Rasuto no Monogatari ), released on April 2, 2021. [40] Fujimoto participated as a guest judge at Shonen Jump+ 's Million Tag online reality show in July 2021. [41] [42] Fujimoto's second major serialized work, Chainsaw Man ( チェンソーマン, Chensō Man), was published in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from December 3, 2018, to December 14, 2020. [29] [7] The series was collected in eleven tankōbon volumes. [30] [31] A sequel to the series began its serialization in Shōnen Jump+ on July 13, 2022. [32] [33] Chainsaw Man topped Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! list of best manga of 2021 for male readers [34] and earned Fujimoto the 66th Shogakukan Manga Award for Best Shōnen Manga. [35] [36] [5] In 2021, the manga won the Harvey Awards for Best Manga; [37] it won the award for the second time in 2022; [38] it won the award for the third time in 2023. [39] relationship feels natural as they push each other to become better artists and expand their personal boundaries; becoming better versions of themselves. Watching as they find comfort and safety in one another is also portrayed beautifully, with Fujimoto utilising scenery to really convey the emotions that the characters are feeling. Not that that’s a bad thing - I’m ok with both, so long as it’s balanced, which it is for the most part - but Fujimoto is a very hands-off storyteller, writing the bare minimum and relying heavily on the imagery to tell his stories for him. It’s laudable - I think that’s the way comics storytelling should be done to some degree - but in the case of the second half of the story, it’s unclear what’s going on or why. It took me a few re-reads to figure out what Fujimoto was doing but I got it, though whether you believe it happened or not is up to the reader. Yes, it’s one of those “impressionistic” endings where you have to figure out for yourself what happened - I don’t dislike those but I know some readers detest them so be warned. The shades fits so well with the aesthetic and I absolutely love it. 10/10 without a doubt. We follow the unlikely friendship of Fujino and Kiyomoto as they become successful artists and though it is told through short snippets, it unfurls before our eyes and maps a rather touching and moving tale.

In our transient life, we can only do so much. Will we end up with wishes about our past, about what we could have done differently? Of course. But sooner or later we must move on. This is a common theme, but in this work it’s expressed beautifully, not least because the story decided to portray what a person has already done as a source of motivation for the future. The story is an emotional journey. It kinda leaves you heartbroken and satisfied at the same time, as with Fujimoto's other works. I was a little bit confused in the middle of the end, and when I continued reading it (gently scrolling) to the point where I understand what Fujimoto Sensei is trying to tell the readers That moment I realized and talking to myself why tf did I choose a public coffee shop to read such an emotional manga, and I'm trying so hard to hold my tears not to fall in front of people and I did it,good on me. Fujimoto commented that he wanted to "draw manga like Korean films", citing the 2008 South Korean film The Chaser as example, stating: "the main character chases after the villain, but thirty minutes into the movie, he catches him. This is supposed to happen at the end of the movie, so you keep wondering what will happen next. A lot of people say that in Korean movies they cannot tell what the director is thinking, but actually, if you watch until the end, you will get it. I wanted to make something like that." [56] He also mentioned the 2016 Japanese film Sadako vs. Kayako, Kōji Shiraishi's film series Senritsu Kaiki File Kowasugi! [ ja], [57] the 2011 Indonesian film The Raid and Takeshi Kitano's work. [58] He was also influenced by manga authors Hiroaki Samura, [56] Hideki Arai, [57] and Tsutomu Nihei. [8] Works [ edit ] Serialized manga [ edit ]a b Hodgkins, Crystalyn (June 20, 2022). "Chainsaw Man Manga's 2nd Part Launches on Shonen Jump+ on July 13". Anime News Network. Archived from the original on June 20, 2022 . Retrieved June 20, 2022. Just Listen to the Song ( フツーに聞いてくれ, Futsū ni Kiitekure, "Listen to Me Normally") (2022) — Illustrated by Oto Tōda; published in Shōnen Jump+ Unlike the demon annihilation and magic, isekai like the same old stories, Chainsaw Man brought a whole new perspective to the modern Shōnen series. The main character, Denji, is not like an ally of justice. He is greedy and straightforward more like the actual human from our society. He fights with selfishness. He cares about his dog and just wants “ordinary happiness.”And it’s not just Denji, the flashy battle action, dynamic character design, and drama of the characters collided with the story in a way that makes it a must-read title for any enthusiastic manga reader out there. Friendship, art, and the inherent repercussion we have on other people's lives sound like totally random themes to group together, that is until Fujimoto strings them into a compelling one shot that, as much of his work, cuts right to the tenderest parts of one's heart. So for those who wanted to avoid spoilers I'll say that the story was beautifully written and had many emotional scenes , so if you want to read a one shot ,it definetely worths your time

After realising this was about precocious high schoolers discovering the joy of creating manga together, I was expecting a Bakuman-style comic - and if that was all we got, I wouldn’t have minded because that first volume of Bakuman at least is amazing. But I appreciated that Fujimoto took his story in a wildly different direction in the second half, even if he did so in a very clunky way. fitting for the manga format, what the main characters, fujino and kyoumoto, interestingly sharing kanjis with the mangaka fujimoto himself, create is manga. Goodbye, Eri ( さよなら絵梨, Sayonara Eri ) (2022) — Published in Shōnen Jump+ and collected in one volumeOk, I THINK I know what happened in this. The magical realism combined with the depressing reality makes this seem very French to me for some reason. This is a very slice-of-life, until it's not, coming of age story. one can do the utmost effort to explain it to others without ever making them feel half the way one does. Unless, of course, you're a genius like Fujimoto. We know him for his weird scenes, crazy humour, great storytelling and his often depressing stories... so this feels, at least for me, new. Personal. only for it to be lonely after the filled-up space in the company of another person is missing again. present in this work is a strong sense of pace. The pace of the exchange and progression of minute moments. It is this element that makes the story feel quite immersive when following along and definitely helps with the overall clarity.
