The ECAM23.460 has an attractive and stylish design – at least in our opinion! The stainless steel exterior provides a timeless appeal that’s missing from many kitchen appliances. The front control panel also has a modern appearance, so the ECAM won’t look out of place in a contemporary kitchen.

Still, manufacturers like DeLonghi continue to flood the market with constant new releases. Even if there isn’t much innovation involved, there’s always the opportunity to hoist up a ‘new release’ banner. That doesn’t make the devices worse, just a bit redundant. Over all, I would say lovely product, good value for money, definitely enjoying my coffee and lattes and Capus. De’Longhi is well known for making some of the highest quality home espresso makers on the market, and although this machine may appear small and simple from the outside, it can make a great cup of coffee any day of the week.

When it comes to the grinder, DeLonghi delivers its usual high-quality performance with the ECAM 23.460. Not only is the inclusion of 13 grind settings always exceptional at this price point, but the stainless steel conical burr grinder is also supremely adjustable. My only concern is about the repeated attaching and removal of the milk container and it wearing out. On the one hand, having the filter is nice. You can control water hardness, and as a result, have to descale your machine less often. On the other, it means that you’ve got to periodically buy more filters, which is an ongoing, recurring expense that adds to the total cost of your machine.

The upside of the water tank size is that it’s a relatively compact machine. If you’re tight on kitchen worktop space, the Delonghi doesn’t need much room. The ECAM 23.460 has many of the features of the pricier De’Longhi Eletta ECAM 44.660.B. These include the milk carafe and automatic cappuccino function. If you’re looking for a coffee maker that can make both espresso and cappuccino from whole beans, it’s one of the best options.As mentioned in the summary, this makes it ideal for people who live in apartments or houses where there’s very little clearance between the kitchen countertop and the lower edge of your cabinets.

This is a big win, and a crucial part of our DeLonghi ECAM23460S review. The unit comes with an impressively sized 1.8-liter (60.8 ounce) water tank. Even better, it’s front-loading for easy access. In most machines, the only way you can get the water tank out to refill it is to physically turn the machine around. For the test, I chose the finest grind for the espresso and opted for a ‘short coffee’, then adjusted the fill volume further down. The fill volume range here extends from around 20-180 milliliters (0.67-6 fluid ounces), which is just about convincing in the minimum range. I settled on around 25 milliliters (0.85 fluid ounces) and used the ‘very strong’ coffee quantity setting. If there’s one thing the Italian brands know how to do, it’s how to make fully automatic espresso machines instantly recognizable. The DeLonghi ECAM 23.460 is no exception. At the end of the day, the De’Longhi ECAM23.460 is a nice entry level unit. If you’re serious about coffee, however, you’ll eventually want one of De’Longhi’s larger, fancier models with all of the extra bells and whistles. The most important factors when choosing a coffee machine are taste and aroma, and the Delonghi ECAM23.460 consistently produces lovely coffee. We think you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the espresso produced by this machine and coffee sold by major high street brands.As is always the case with home bean-to-cup machines, we would have liked a bigger water tank. This isn’t a major issue, as it’s easy to refill, but makes the Delonghi slightly less convenient. It forever cleans itself so gets through the water in the tank a lot but again this is not a problem. Then comes DeLonghi, seemingly suggesting that it would be better to dissolve this complicated field and only offer coffee. This is utter nonsense because it also suggests that a fully automatic espresso machine can only master one style.
