There’s no question that Chromebooks have taken over the classroom and various manufacturers offer multiple options for students. Our Dell Chromebook 11 3180 review takes a look at one of Dell’s latest Chromebooks designed to enable collaborative, flexible, and active learning environments centered around students. Specifications Update: We added a durability and drop test section (see below) with results from our Chromebook drop test . A Chrome device with Administrator rights or a Windows, Mac, or Linux personal computer with Administrator privileges.The Chromebook 3180 reproduced a modest 72.8 percent of the sRGB color gamut, which is far below the ultraportable-laptop category average of 99.4 percent, but similar to the scores from the Chromebook N7 (72 percent) and the N22 Touch Chromebook (71 percent). The Asus Chromebook C202 was significantly less vibrant. The Chromebook 11 is comparable with the Acer Chromebook Spin 311 and Samsung Chromebook 4, both of which are similarly priced systems with the same screen size. The Dell is significantly faster than the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, which is a detachable tablet with an ARM rather than x86 processor, but much slower than the more expensive Pixelbook Go, which boasts an Intel Core CPU.

One of the more important features of a Chromebook — or any laptop — is its battery life. Dell claims the Chromebook 11 3180 should get up to 10 hours on a single charge and we definitely hit that mark a few times during testing. As we’ve mentioned in the past, battery life does depend on what you’re doing and depending on our activities (a combination of using Google apps, watching videos, and streaming music) we averaged between 7 1/2 and just over 10 hours during testing. Price/ValueThe 3189's Delta-E color accuracy score of 0.3 is excellent (0 is ideal). It scored better than the category average of 2.4, and beat the scores of the Chromebook R 13 (1.1) and the Chromebook Flip C3-1CA (1.6); the Chromebook 3180 also scored 0.3. On a working Chromebook, go to the Chrome Web Store and install the Chromebook Recovery Utility extension. Remove the USB flash drive from the computer, when you get a message on-screen saying that your recovery media is ready.

For example, a Lenovo Chromebook Duetannounced in May and released in June has an expiration date of June 2028. If you bought it today, you’d get about 8 years. If you bought that same Chromebook Duet in June of 2021, you’d get 7 years of updates. Buy a brand-new, never-touched Duet in 2025 and you’d get only 3 years. Google is planning to add support for Android apps to future versions of Chrome OS and some Chromebooks -- but not the 3189 -- can already do it, if users install a beta version of the operating system. However, with its touch screen and convertible form factor, Dell's laptop should do a great job running Android software when the time comes.The Chromebook 3180 scored 49.9 on the JetStream benchmark test, which measures JavaScript performance (the higher the score, the better). That number was in line with those of its closest competitors (each of which has the same CPU) and came within a point of them, but it was far below the category average of 166.06. The Dell Chromebook 3180 has just enough power to get a student through the school day and an extracurricular activity. When we ran our battery test (continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi), the 3180 lasted 8 hours and 55 minutes. That's better than the 8:10 average and the Chromebook C202's runtime of 8:23. However, the N22 Touch Chromebook and the N7 Chromebook lasted much longer, at 10:26 and 10:38, respectively. The Dell Chromebook 11 3180 doesn’t look all that much different than many other Chromebooks on the market.
