This build depends on how much you want to spend, but you can even power a refrigerator with this DIY with suitable materials. Solar Refrigerator (Medium) Although we’d love to think that the sun jar is simply a jam jar with a mini sun in it, the reality is slightly more technical! When the jar is placed in sunlight (for the best result put it in direct sunlight), the solar cell inside the jar creates an electrical current that charges the rechargeable battery. This energy then powers the LED lamp inside the jar at night-time. Components Required: Two water bottles, a lake or a pond for a water source, and tape. DIY Solar Generator (Hard) Applications: If you’re all out of matches during a camping trip, chocolate and a soda can are likely to be found. Even without the chocolate, you can use a soda can to impress your friends and family by starting a campfire with a standard, everyday household item.

Leave the solar lights on the Mason jars outside in the sun to charge for a day (four - 12 hours) before you glue them together. Occasionally a solar light is faulty right out of the box and doesn't work well or at all. If a light doesn't work, it's better to find out before you glue it to a Mason jar and can't return it.
