About this deal

There are literally dozens of “plug and play” portable antennas on the market, and the path of least resistance would be to buy one and be done with it. I did consider a manufactured portable antenna until I dug a little deeper and was turned off by the details. I have another choke balun for higher power using RG142 coax. Following Jim’s advice once again, I used three cylindrical toroids with 3 or 4 wraps each. This yields three lower impedance chokes in series to achieve the high choke impedance goal in the upper HF range. I used this in the Field Day setup shown below with success. And now, a handful of the parts needed are located in one spot -- MFJ! MFJ's kit for Phil Salas' antenna building project consists of the following:

Also offered is the convenience of switching between popular bands without twiddling an antenna coupler. The highest power rating in its class, the Comet GP-1 is capable of handling long QSOs from high-power VHF/UHF radios. Its compact size of only 3.5 feet makes it perfect for installation in various locations such as outdoors, attics, or even closets. Additionally, the extruded aluminum and stainless steel clamp-on mounting hardware incorporated in the design makes installation incredibly easy. If you have antenna restrictions, neighbors that tend to complain about antennas, simply want to operate without drawing attention…or you want a lightweight multi-band antenna to use in portable or emergency situations, the CHV-5X is a great choice.low supports. This is an advantage if your poles are only 8 or 9 metres tall, such as the popular fishing poles portable QRPers use. This is a great one for the antenna experimenter, especially if you're operating over salt water. It's three antennas in one; T L and I shaped.

The antenna is extendable to 12 feet (3.7m), and collapses down to 12 inches (30 cm). The tripod collapses down to 25 inches (64 cm) and the go bag size is 13 inchesx9 inchesx3.5 inches (33x23x9 cm). The power rating is 500W SSB, 300W CW/DATA. Overall All wire antennas described above have been for portable operating. But wire antennas can also be used on the move if supported by a pole. Portable antennas come in many forms, as vertical antennas, small directional antennas or even yagis. Some types require a tuner, others can be tuned exactly to the desired frequency and achieve good SWR without a tuner. Some small models can be attached directly to a radio and do not even need a mounting possibility. Chameleon Antenna has been a pioneer at rethinking and redesigning portable antenna systems since almost a decade! Pushing the limits of design and manufacturing with cutting edge technology, Chameleon Antenna are known to design, manufacture and distribute products worldwide that are versatile, dependable and built to last! The best Ham Radio equipment for operators who demand top performance comes from Super Antenna brand. Operators will never be disappointed with the output of their transmission and reception!

So you were intrigued by the half-square but can only take one pole with you? Or there's only one tall tree that you can throw a line up in to? A unun is a matching transformer used to convert the unbalanced impedance of the long wire close to something the antenna tuner can work with. It is not the same as a balun (more about this in a moment) .I should note the Bravo Antennas from Schiller are more compact and portable than this prototype. Summary If you make the above 1 wavelength wire asymmetrical with an off-centre support point and the part nearest the transceiver vertical Another choice for you– This portable realization of the Cebik, et al., asymmetric hatted vertical dipole is a worthy alternative choice to many freestanding portable HF antennas including the “I” shape symmetrical vertical dipole and the various Buddipoles. I then tried some home brew dipoles made with thin 22 gauge wire (which is fine for QRP). They also worked very well and lightened the load, but I still needed an antenna for each band and a tripod/mast to hold it up. There had to be a better way. The major point about aluminum is the relative ease of nesting one inside the other to yield a long antenna from short components. As one of the goals of this Asymmetrical Hatted Vertical Dipole is portability, this had instant appeal.
