About this deal

Ideal for those following soy-free and gluten-free diets, coconut aminos provide a rich, savory alternative to oyster sauce. Oyster sauce is of Chinese origin, but is now used in many Southeast Asian countries where their cuisines have been influenced by China. Lee Kum Sheung, the founder of the popular oyster sauce brand Lee Kum Kee, is said to have accidentally invented oyster sauce in 1888. We’ll often add a teaspoon or two of oyster sauce to meat marinades for stir-fries, and add a tablespoon to sauces and braises. It really has a way of enhancing the flavor of any meats used in stir fries. Ingredients: Water, sugar, salt, oyster extractives, monosodium glutamate as a flavor enhancer, modified corn starch, wheat flour, caramel color.

Add the cooked noodles to the vegetables, then pour in the sauce mixture. Stir to combine thoroughly and cook until heated through. Finally, you can use it straight up or slightly diluted as a drizzle over steamed veggies (usually Chinese broccoli), but I highly recommend using the premium LKK oyster sauce for this. The other brands I find too salty. Case in point, in Thailand where Maekrua is our main oyster sauce, we don’t usually use it straight up.

Arrange marinated wings on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 40-45 minutes, turning halfway through, until they are cooked through and the glaze has caramelized. The brand also offers different flavors of oyster sauce such as garlic oyster and mushroom oyster sauces. Between the two, mushroom sauce is more popular. Lee Kum Kee’s Panda Brand oyster sauce, however, is not as flavorsome as its Premium version. The fresh oyster flavor is not that apparent in this version. Having said that, customers have vouched that this can easily turn their chop suey into tasting and looking like an authentic South Asian dish.

The best oyster sauces are versatile and can be used in a variety of dishes, from stir-fries and marinades to dips and dressings. Tips for a Successful Recipe But if you have a memory of a dish that you had in Thailand and you want it to taste exactly like what you remember, then using Maekrua is probably going to get you there. How do you cook with oyster sauce? It’s significantly sweeter than LKK Premium Oyster Sauce, and also thinner (more pourable), which makes it more suitable as a condiment than as a cooking sauce in our opinion. It also happens to be gluten-free, if that’s important for you! The history of oyster sauce is a fascinating journey, highlighting its role in Chinese culinary traditions and its eventual introduction to other Asian cuisines. Origins in Chinese Cuisine If you are a fan of soy sauce, you are sure to like this one. Be guaranteed that there is no flavor or smell of fish in it. However, it does contain MSG, and added preservatives. Use it judiciously, as even an extra drop can make your dish overwhelmingly salty.

In a wok or large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add garlic and cook until fragrant. When considering the nutritional information of oyster sauce, it's essential to understand both its health benefits and potential concerns. Health Benefits Use fish sauce in a 1:1 ratio, but be mindful of its strong aroma and flavor. Start with less fish sauce and adjust according to your taste. 3. Worcestershire sauce Remove from heat and garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. This dish pairs perfectly with steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables. Oyster sauce (háo yóu, 蚝油) or “ho yeow” in Cantonese dialect, is a savory sauce that is commonly used in Chinese cooking. Traditionally, it was used mostly in Cantonese cooking and southern Chinese cuisine due to the proximity of the fertile oyster beds off the coast of Hong Kong and Guangdong. Since then, it has spread to many different types of Chinese cooking and has become a very popular ingredient in many Asian recipes.

Add mushrooms and stir-fry for about 2 minutes. Add the vegetables and continue cooking until vegetables are tender. Traditional oyster sauce is made from oyster extracts, so it’s not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. However, there are vegetarian and vegan versions available in the market that use mushrooms or other plant-based ingredients to mimic the flavor of oysters. Can I use oyster sauce as a substitute for soy sauce or vice versa? While you may not find bottles labeled "vegetarian oyster sauce" or "vegan oyster sauce," you might find ones that are meant to be vegan substitutes for oyster sauce. The picture above shows two good brands labeled " vegetarian stir fry sauce" and " vegetarian mushroom sauce". Once opened, oyster sauce should be kept in the fridge as it will get moldy at room temperature. However, if you go to Thailand, you’ll see most people keep their oyster sauce at room temperature despite it saying “refrigerate after opening” on the label. Different oyster sauces have unique tastes, ranging from sweet to salty. It's essential to choose a flavor profile that complements the dishes you intend to cook, whether it's a stir-fry or a seafood dish. Sodium Content

Mama Sita’s oyster sauce boasts an intense flavor. It can be used as a sauce by itself for Asian dishes or can form a base for other sauces. It adds unbeatable flavor to a plate of broccoli beef, or bowls of soups and stews. While all three are popular Asian condiments, oyster sauce is made from oyster extracts and has a sweet, savory, and slightly briny flavor. Soy sauce is made from fermented soybeans and has a salty and umami taste.

Yet, what is this magical brown sauce? Is it actually made of, well, oysters? And how can one start deploying it at home? This flavorful sauce is more tangy than oyster sauce but can still serve as an excellent substitute. It can essentially serve as an all-purpose seasoning for tofu, meat, vegetable, and seafood dishes. Add a teaspoon or two to just about anything, and you won’t be disappointed with the result.
