About this deal

When you’re calculating the dimensions of these canister stoves, remember that the fuel occupies a lot of room. Fuel efficiency is key, so you don’t have to bring too much with you. Best Stove for Cooking The WindBurner is an intuitive system. Unfold the legs, plop the stove on the burner, and screw the canister into the end of the satellite piping system. That’s right. Unlike the other stoves we considered, the WindBurner is a remote canister stove. Perry Dowst joined him in 2003 after they realized how popular their product would be among campers all over America! The Jetboil MightyMo boiled 10 two-cup pots of tap water at an average of 2 minutes 36 seconds. Conditions were sunny, calm and 54 degrees F at an elevation of 5,778. We used a GSI Halulite Duo cook pot and a new canister of Jetboil’s Jetpower 4-season fuel.

Sleeping Bags When it comes to wild camping, a good sleeping bag is essential. With Wood To Water’s selection, you can find the perfect sleeping bag to keep you warm and dry, no matter where you are. Read More But if you have a JetBoil, you may have noticed that the official JetBoil fuel canisters (called “Jetpower”) are a little on the expensive side. Plus, if you’re not close to any larger outdoor stores, getting those JetBoil canisters can be close to impossible. If you’re brand-spankin’-new to the JetBoil scene (or just need a refresher), we’ve also included an in-depth buyers guide down at the bottom to explain some of the technology that makes these stoves special. Igniter. Also called a Piezo-Igniter. Produces a spark to ignite your fuel without matches or a lighter. They tend to wear out with use but can be replaced on some stoves. Igniters are often left off basic models and included as a higher-end feature on canister stoves.

Convenient and reliable push-button igniter allows for consistent performance down to 20 degrees F (-6 degrees C) This stove pot also has simmer controls, which makes it easier to cook other dishes. You can use this for anything from ramen noodles or soups to your morning oatmeal. Propane: by far the best-performing fuel for cold weather. Maintains a very high vapor pressure (above -44°). When placed in front of a desk fan in lab conditions for a five-boil test with Jetboil’s Jetpower 4-season fuel mix, the MightyMo averaged 3:32 to boil two cups of cold tap water. This is close to a minute slower than under calm conditions, rather impressive for a non-heat exchanger based system. JetBoil stoves work well in most all weather conditions, including serious cold thanks to an internal regulator that’s designed to provide steady performance down to 20-degrees Fahrenheit (-6 Celcius). Like many canister stoves, they tend to struggle a bit when the wind starts blowing through, so you’ll want to seek out a windbreak of some kind (or build your own) to get the best performance out of your JetBoil when its windy out. Cooking Features

What we didn’t like: weight (although it’s quite good for a group stove), slower boil (but only by a few seconds) The best video I’ve seen on how to keep your campfire spot safe is the one you’re required to watch to get your California fire permit (even if you don’t live in California, we highly recommend watching it at the top of this section!). Waterproof Camping Gear & Kit Repairs At Wood To Water, we consider keeping your kit dry and usable one of the most important things when out on the trail. We have a wide range of dry bags, waterproof map cases and waterproof material and waterproofing treatments like Nikwax, to keep your gear free from water and dirt. Read More Fluxring. Also called Heat Exchange Coils or Fins. These are metal coils soldered to the base of a cooking pot to hold heat and transfer it to the cooking pot even when the stove has been turned off. They also provide wind protection and have the potential to reduce fuel requirements by 30%.

Jetboil Stoves

It’s also a great choice if you’re already happy with your cookware setup, and are just in the market for a powerful and lightweight burner. Who shouldn't buy it: Jetboil actively promotes use of its companion FluxRing pots and pans in conjunction with this stove. They aren’t necessary and were not tested but we suspect they would marginally increase wind performance, boil averages, and efficiency. Efficiency The Jetboil SUMO has the same features as the MiniMo, but with a 1.8L cook pot instead of a 1.0L one. It’s designed for couples or small groups, but is underpowered for that task, with the same 6000 BTU power stove as the MiniMo and MicroMo. While you can simmer with the SUMO, I’d recommend upgrading to the 10,000 BTU Jetboil MightyMo stove if you plan to cook for more than two people or want to use wider and higher capacity pots and pans for meal preparation. In other words, isobutane provides the advantage of working longer in colder weather than butane does. Do JetBoil Stoves Work in Cold Weather? The Jetboil MicroMo has the same pot size as the Jetboil Zip, but its stove has more power, comes with a push-button igniter, and has a built-in pressure regular so it’s better for cold weather use. A pressure regular helps maintain a steady flow of fuel from a canister to the stove as the gas pressure in the canister drops. This occurs when the outside temperature falls or as the gas in the canister is used up. The MicroMo will still only burn canister gas down to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but it will burn hotter and more forcefully than the unregulated Zip or Flash stoves until the pressure in the canister drops below the minimum pressure required by the stove to operate. The MicroMo is also designed to simmer, so you can cook things like scrambled eggs or pasta with cream sauce, although it’s easier to do this with the Jetboil MiniMo. Like the Zip, you can expect to get boil 12 liters of water with a 100 g fuel canister.

Tent Parts and Add ons Tent Parts and Add ons, Some Times add ons can make life a little easier or comfortable as well as replacement of any worn or lost parts on your tent or shelter. Although we’ve chosen the MightyMo as our best JetBoil stove, there really isn’t a universal “best” choice out there. The MightMo is an incredible stove, which is powerful and compact, yet also has great cooking potential thanks to its highly-adjustable burner. Ultimately it’s the versatility (and price!) of this little wonder than got it to the top of our list, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only serious choice. The MSR WindBurner Personal 1 L is an excellent stove with almost all the benefits of our best stove for groups, the WindBurner Duo. While we were happy to take on the WindBurner’s bulk and weight when we cook for a group, we dismissed the 1 L WindBurner as being too heavy and bulky for a solo integrated canister system.Important to note is that of the lighter stoves, only the Soto has a regulator, and none of them have the push-button piezo ignitor native to the MightyMo. It’s hard to argue those features aren’t worth the extra ounce or so . Using an ultralight canister stove can be a big burden during high-windy conditions. When the regulator is adjusted to full heat (for boiling water for instance) it shouldn’t cause a problem. BUT adjusting the heat to a light simmer in windy weather might be a pain in the ass. Stoves and Cookers Cooking is part and parcel of camping, so it’s essential to choose a good quality stove that will make the experience hassle-free. At Wood to Water, we have a range of portable camping stoves and cookers that are both easy to use, efficient and built to last.
