About this deal

Honestly, the Godox system is more than just a "budget alternative" to Nikon speedlights. It's a much more fully fleshed out system. It's not just a cheaper option, it's a better one. Versatile Compatibility: This flash is compatible with all Nikon DSLR cameras and I-TTL II autoflash, making it an ideal choice for photographers who own multiple camera models. Moreover, it can also be used with Nikon’s Creative Lighting System (CLS) and other popular radio triggers, which means you can have more creative control over your lighting environment. If you are using Magmod, want the longest lasting battery and/or just want to save a few pennies then I would recommend you consider the Godox v860ii. You can read my review on that flash here: Godox v860ii Review I looked up local prices. SB-5000 is 479€, Canon's 600EX-II RT is 569€, and the Profoto A1X is 1090€. So, it depends on what you compare with. Godox has a full-featured lineup of flashes and strobes. Some of these are powerful, studio strobes, while others are more portable and multi-purposes. The V1 fits among the latter. It is a hot-shoe mounted speedlight, but includes many distinctive features, many of which are similar to the company’s V860 III:

Capture stunning detail on a microscopic level with the Godox MF12 MF12-K2 12W macro flash. This powerful and lightweight flash unit, designed specifically for macro photography, makes it possible to capture small objects and intricate details with remarkable clarity. The adjustable head angle and focus distance give you complete control over exposure, while intuitive controls make it easy to set up and use with a Nikon camera. The second downside is that the shape of the head means it won't fit many speedlight specific modifiers. Softboxes like SMDV's Speedbox series do not accommodate this shape, and despite the magnets being present in the head itself, MagMod's kit doesn't fit either. Hopefully this will change like some gel kits have. Magnetic Modifiers Compatible not only with Nikon but also with Canon cameras, which makes it an ideal choice for multi-camera studios. So again I think Nikon speedlights to be overpriced. (not to mention Nikon was manufacturing in China too till october 2017 which renders our view on supporting the exploitation of workers at least discussable) Ensure that your flash is the appropriate size and weight for your camera and other equipment. If a flash is too large or heavy, it can be bulky to carry and use. In contrast, if a flash is too small, it may not be able to provide you with the power and features you need. Recycle time and power output. So as far as the advantage of having a round head in an umbrella, there's actually none. Simply use the built-in wide-angle diffuser of your rectangular flash head and the umbrella will be illuminated as evenly as with the round head. Also, it is going to be pretty hard to write about this flash, without comparing it to it's brother, the Godox v860ii. I suspect most readers will be reading this review to decide if they should buy the V1 or v860ii. So I hope my comparisons won't be an issue.

The Godox V1 TTL Li-ion flash has a round head to provide soft and even illumination, like studio units. Not the B10 but the B10 plus I wouldn't know why a 500W/s light could not work as a main light for 'normal' use?

Accessory Kit

Introducing a professional grade Godox V860III-N flash that provides stellar performance and has advanced features such as TTL, high-speed sync, LED modeling lamp, and wireless system that is a great suit with a Nikon camera. It’s equipped with a built-in 2.4G wireless X system that allows you to control up to 3 groups of flashes with different ratios. You will also enjoy energy efficiency thanks to Godox’s recycling time of 1.5s.

The remote works quite well. It controls flash settings, so you don't have to move away from your camera to switch to HSS or manual power control, and can control up to five groups of lights independently. The XPro TTL is one link in the chain where you'll need to keep AA batteries handy—it's powered by a pair. It is a bit unclear to me if the app only works on very few specific Android phone for everything or if they mean only for the camera part. They listed very few Samsung and Huawei phones as compatible. Unfortunately my Mate P20 is not only list. The first downside is that the head is not able to zoom quite so much as a regular speedlight. This could be an issue for photographers who use the flash on camera as coverage may not quite be enough on the wide and not concentrated enough on the long end. For example, the Godox V860II zooms from 20mm to 200mm whereas the V1 only zooms from 28mm to 105mm.

The rear interface is better than previous Godox flashes. Gone are the optical modes (YAY!). Only radio master & slave now. The engineers have clearly put some thought into this part of the flash since it no longer possible to activate slave mode whilst the flash is mounted on the camera. MULTIPLE USER FUNCTIONS: The Godox V1 features a large range of controllable functions such as TTL, exposure compensation, high speed sync, front curtain sync, rear curtain sync, multi flash. MAGNETIC MOUNT: The front of the Godox V1 light has a magnetic system allowing you to attach a range of modifiers directly onto the product. This will fully support the Godox AK-R1 Kit allowing you to make instant changes easier than ever.
