Significant elements of the Lectionary are contained in the psalms which are used in response to the readings. Noticeable work has recently been concluded on the revision of the Grail Psalms. This revision sought to reflect developments in the understanding of the texts, avoiding paraphrase whilst maintaining the poetry and rhythm of the psalter. The two wisdom books in the Catholic Bible are the book of Sirach (Also known as Ecclesiasticus) and Wisdom of Solomon. Sirach was written in Hebrew. Ecclesiasticus means church book, which indicates its extensive use in catechizing new believers. It contains many passages about good conduct and wisdom. The 51 chapters deal with theology, right conduct in life, and other helpful advice for life. One interesting verse is Sirach 23:1, where Ben Sirach refers to God as his Father. There are differences in the nomenclature of the books and most modern English translations call these 1 and 2 Esdras (see, for instance, Esdras#Naming conventions).The Catholic Bible is composed of 73 books: an Old Testament of 46 books (including 7 deuterocanonical books and additional deuterocanonical content in 2 books) and a New Testament of 27 books. Although Luke still believes the parousia to be a reality that will come unexpectedly ( Lk 12:38, 45– 46), he is more concerned with presenting the words and deeds of Jesus as guides for the conduct of Christian disciples in the interim period between the ascension and the parousia and with presenting Jesus himself as the model of Christian life and piety. Though the New Testament authors may allude to some of the apocryphal books in the same way they allude to culturally significant Jewish pseudepigrapha (Jude 9, 14) and even pagan writings (Acts 17:28, Titus 1:12), they never cited these as Scripture (“It is Written…”, “As the Holy Spirit said…”, etc.)
