Evil Dark Knights from the multiverse have risen! Only Batman and the world’s greatest superheroes can save the multiverse! Get the entire Dark Nights Metal epic in one heart-pounding collection. Don’t Sleep on Children of the Vault! Immortal Thor & Doctor Doom & Dinosaurs! | CBH Live! November 17, 2023 Nightwing’s entrance into the Gotham Resistance connects the dots between the prelude Nightwing #17 issue and the Metal saga.

I find the decision to release Batman & The Signal #1 prior to Metal #5 and Metal #6 extremely confusing. The issue clearly occurs in the aftermath of Metal. What was the rush to release this new series? The odd scheduling brings to mind Marvel releasing their All-New All-Different lineup prior to the conclusion of Secret Wars, semi-spoiling the outcome in the process. Given the insanely talented creative team-up of Jeff Lemire and Bryan Hitch, I wanted to like Hawkman Found significantly more than I did. It’s a fine comic, but with significantly more questions than answers, to the point that I’m not sure how much this issue contributes that the core event wouldn’t already cover. Since Metal is so comparatively tight (for an event), I wouldn’t actually skip, but if you’re strapped for time or cash, you can. DC Hints at Evil Versions of Batman for Dark Nights: Metal One-Shots". DC. 2017-06-16 . Retrieved 2017-10-05. Superman flies to the Fortress of Solitude where he encounters the dark versions of Batman for the first time as they introduce themselves as the Dark Knights. They all come from the Dark Multiverse — temporary negative realities created by the fears of people from their respective counterpart positive universes — and were recruited by Barbatos with the promise of preventing the end of their worlds. The Batman Who Laughs from Earth-22, who lost his sanity due to his world's Joker, gathered the six other Dark Multiverse Batmen after they each alter themselves to gain superhuman abilities. The Dark Knights' membership includes the speedster fusion of Flash and Batman called The Red Death, a female amphibious Batman (Bryce Wayne) called The Drowned, a corrupted, teenaged Green Lantern Batman named The Dawnbreaker, a cyborg Batman named The Murder Machine, a Batman known as The Merciless who wears the helmet of Ares and the Doomsday-infected Batman called The Devastator. Superman is overwhelmed as he is spirited away from danger by the Flash and Doctor Fate. [18]

Speaking of Morrison, Metal is a giant love letter to the living legend. A full familiarity with the DC Comics of Grant Morrison is always recommended, but for the purposes of Metal, his time writing Batman and his cosmic mapping of the DC multiverse in Multiversity are the most relevant. Spinning out of Dark Nights: Metal, No Justice is a weekly miniseries running through May 2017. It’s also the catalyst for the a new era in Justice League and Teen Titans comics known as New Justice. Scott Snyder’s Justice League in particular would take a lot of ideas that come out of Dark Nights: Metal and run with them.

Hot damn this event is great. The first look into the Bats of the dark multiverse highlights “The Red Death,” a look at a dark Batman with the speed force. If you’ve ever wanted to see Batman wield the combined weapons of the Rogues in a fight with the Flash, this is your chance. Detective Comics is not a direct Metal tie-in, and is for absolute die-hards only. You can read Metal without Detective! That said, Detective begins teasing out Batman’s quest, and the mysteries of DC Metal prior to “The Forge.”On Thanagar Prime, Hal and Mr. Terrific are rescued from their cells by the Martian Manhunter (who has been exploring Thanagar Prime to learn about the secret Nth Metal deposits) and the trio proceed to rescue Plastic Man from Synn and Starro. They soon learn several Dark Knights have seized control of the Phoenix Cannon, reversing its polarity to make Earth sink further into the Dark Multiverse. Hal Jordan is summoned by Ganthet to investigate a dark presence that he senses on Earth, the location of which is revealed to be the Batcave. Upon his arrival, he meets Duke Thomas. As they investigate, they stumble upon a hidden room in the Batcave, where they hear a mysterious voice that lures them in. This leads them to a cell where Batman has imprisoned the Joker. [14]

The first two issues of Metal are darn near perfect love letters to the DC Universe, touching on everything from Mongul to the creation of the DC Multiverse!

My least favorite of the Dark Knights one-shots to date, but still highly relevant to the overall narrative. The conclusion of Dawnbreaker clearly connects to Green Arrow #32, bringing the series together and setting up the Justice League’s tie-ins to come. Johnson, Jim (October 11, 2017). DC stated, "Each one-shot story spotlights a different, corrupted version of Batman spawned from the Dark Multiverse to wreak havoc on Earth." [6] Evil Dark Knights from the multiverse have risen!
