Simpson, Rachael (28 November 2020). "So I just finished the Zom-B series by Darren Shan and…". Blind Dog Books– via Rachael Simpson. Location: West Ridge – On the monitor station on the second floor of the West Ridge Emergency Shelter.

Of course that's nonsense, yet many people believe the lies, especially people who (like me when I was younger) don't travel much or get to mingle with people from other cultures. I felt I had to do what I could to get young readers questioning the ways of their elders, to decide for themselves what is right or wrong, to look for the truth behind the cloud of lies. The main message I wanted to impart was -- QUESTION EVERYTHING! Location: On the second floor of Cochrane’s Irish Pub, grab this key for the hidden bunker door in the basement.Zom-B (alternatively known as the Zom-B Chronicles) is a young adult zombie apocalyptic- thriller novel series by written by Irish author Darren O'Shaughnessy under the pen name Darren Shan. The series is told by first-person perspective of B Smith, a teenager turned into a zombie. Like Shan's previous series, Zom-B is notable for exploring themes of racism, xenophobia, and the sociological concept of "us and them". Add it: Goodreads Goodreads Summary: When news reports start appearing of a zombie outbreak in Ireland, B's racist father thinks it's a joke-- but even if it isn't, he figures, it's ok to lose a few Irish. Mitchell, Wendy (5 March 2020). "Ireland's Fantastic Films moves into TV with ' Zom-B ' (exclusive)". Screen Daily . Retrieved 5 March 2020. Shan [e]nters the zombie genre in a thoroughly bloody fashion with this slow-burning horror piece, which opens a planned 12-book series. Character development is impressive for a relatively short book, and Shan executes the transition from normalcy to wholesale terror masterfully. It's a strong start, but there's a lot of story left to go. [10] The protagonist, B Smith, lives with her mother, Daisy Smith, and father Todd Smith – who is incredibly racist. Todd also suffers for anger management issues and beats both B and Daisy when angered. B struggles to not follow in her father’s footsteps, she really doesn’t want to be racist like he is.

For a traditional zombie outfit, you can opt for distressed, ripped, or patched pants, with a messy but fashionable design to bring out the whole zombie vibe. Zom-B is] a clever mix of horror, fantasy and realism – about the damaging 'virus' of racial hatred and social paranoia. The horror scenes are well choreographed and not without the useful escape valve of humour. There is some earthy language ("I thought she was going to chew me a new arsehole," says B Smith) but it fits the tone and characters in the book rather than seeming gratuitous. [11]

Location: Near the alley door, on the concrete area with the metal railings, just outside the Glitter Dolls Nightclub. But it was also daunting because I knew I would have to take on the mantle of a racist, and I wasn't sure if I would be able to make that work in a children's book. If I'd been writing for adults it would have been different -- I don't feel that adults can be influenced by a book in the same way that a child can, and I never worry about treading a moral high ground in my books for older readers -- I feel like I have more of a license to take readers into uncomfortable areas, to explore the dark regions of the human experience without feeling the need to present any counter-arguments, figuring by the time you reach adulthood, you should have learned the difference between right and wrong, and if you haven't, then there's probably not a lot that a writer can do to reach you. Now, personally, with Zom-B I believe I have come up with the greatest ending ever imagined by a writer, but then again, I believe that every time I finish a long series! I’m prepared for the worst thing a writer can possibly encounter – not outright negativity, but mere indifference – but I’m hoping that readers will be excited by the book’s ending, that it takes them by surprise by not being what they were expecting, yet at the same time ends up being more than they dreamed possible. And if it’s not, and I let some of them down, the way lots of us writers of long series tend to do in the opinion of many of our readers?
