for branloaf Fandoms: Henry VI Part 3 - Shakespeare, Henry VI - Shakespeare, The White Queen (TV), The Sunne in Splendour - Sharon Kay Penman, 15th Century CE RPF, 16th Century CE RPF Spare to the Throne: Prior to the birth of Edward IV's sons, George is his heir and becomes obsessively jealous and covetous of the throne. Richard is loyal to Edward, though the prospect of a boy king controlled by his enemies the Woodvilles and proof of Edward IV's bigamy, causes him to seize the throne. Veronique's plan to hide Anne in an inn works, and Anne tries her best to perform manual labor and endure harsh conditions. Richard's dashing rescue and his romantic reunion with Anne is witnessed not only by his men but the denizens of the inn. Richard tells her that she will take her place in local legend, and later it is revealed that he was very generous with the Lancastrian family that hid her.

Leave the Two Lovebirds Alone: When Ned reunites Richard and Anne after she's widowed, he sees how they are looking at each other and declares he's about as welcome as a case of the pox, before taking his leave.Nobody Likes a Tattletale: Early in the book, Richard earns Ned's respect when he doesn't snitch on Edward for hooking up with Joan. Edward brings this up years later, when they are exiled in Burgundy. Tudor Rose: This was variously represented. Burke and Woodward both mention the forms {a) quarterly argent and gules, and (b) a white rose superimposed upon a red rose; whilst Woodward also mentions {c) per pale argent and gules. On one of this king*s standards (MS. I. 2, Coll. Arms) both red roses barbed and seeded proper, and white roses barbed and seeded proper, are found, as also " a red rose surmounted of a white rose with two buds slipped vert," and "a red rose sur-mounted of a white rose encircled by rays of the sun gold It’s been a long time since I tweeted this at the end of my first thread concerning Galadriel in Rings of Power. With three rewatches of the show and a lot more Tolkien knowledge under my belt, I stand by this statement, and indeed I double down on it. Cain and Abel: George and Edward (Isabel even lampshades this); subverted in that Edward isn't exactly a good guy himself. Later George and Richard, too.

Edward's is Lust. His prodigious sexual appetite installs an unsuitable tyrant as queen, granting her scheming family members undeserved position of power, and causes a major issue of succession when a secret plight-troth he'd once made to another woman technically voids his marriage and disinherits his children as bastards. But Richard was far more than a warrior schooled in combat. He was also a devoted brother, an ardent suitor, a patron of the arts, an indulgent father, a generous friend. Above all, he was a man of fierce loyalties, great courage and firm principles, who was ill at ease among the intrigues of Edward's court. The very codes Richard lived by ultimately betrayed him. He found it hard to understand how so perfect a day would so suddenly sour. The morning had dawned with infinite promise and, when Joan yielded to his coaxing and agreed to take him riding along the wooded trails around Whitcliffe, his spirits had soared skyward. His excitement proved contagious and his pony had responded with unaccustomed élan to his urgings, breaking into a gallop even before they’d passed through the gateway that led from the outer castle bailey. Alongside Josephine Tey's The Daughter of Time, this novel is considered to be one of the classics of Ricardian fiction. He was no longer drowning in fear; the wave was receding. In its wake, he felt shame burn his face and was grateful that none had been there to witness his flight. He thought himself to be too old to yield so easily to panic for, in just eight days’ time, he would be seven years old. He rolled clear of the bushes and sat up. After a moment’s deliberation, he retreated to the shelter of a lightning-scarred beech. Bracing himself against the trunk, he settled down to wait for Ned to find him.

She Is All Grown Up: Richard noticed the changes in Anne after the Battle of Tewkesbury. They hadn't seen each other for nineteen months and he saw that she grew taller and developed curves. Later Edward IV noticed it too on her wedding day. for ancslove Fandoms: 15th Century CE RPF, Historical RPF, The Sunne in Splendour - Sharon Kay Penman, The White Queen (TV)

Need Help?

Richard, last-born son of the Duke of York, was seven months short of his nineteenth birthday when he bloodied himself at the battles of Barnet and Tewkesbury, earning his legendary reputation as a battle commander in the Wars of the Roses, and ending the Lancastrian line of succession. George floats this idea as a means of getting rid of Anne and taking her fortune. Veronique suspects he might have even worse in mind.

Big Damn Reunion: After Anne is widowed and taken prisoner, Edward knows Richard still loves her so arranges a reunion. The couple are overcome with emotion, but Richard, ever chivalrous, only gives her a chaste kiss. It also had significance in alchemy, and may be a symbol of the Roman deity Sol Invictus (Unconquered Sun). I am very grateful to Richard, for he launched my writing career and saved me from a lifetime practicing tax law. I am very grateful, too, to Macmillan, my British publisher, for deciding to re-issue Sunne in a hardcover edition. Few books ever get a rebirth like this, one that has enabled me to correct the typographical errors that infiltrated the original British hardcover edition of Sunne and to rectify my own mistakes that came to light after Sunne’s publication, the most infamous being a time-traveling little grey squirrel. In this new edition, I have also made some changes to the dialogue. Sunne was my first novel and was therefore a learning experience. In subsequent novels, I came to see that in attempting to portray medieval speech, less is more. So, in conclusion, what can we learn about Galadriel from Tolkien’s writings? Towards the end of his life, he was definitely considering her as a much closer match for the Virgin Mary, writing in Letter 353, “Galadriel was ‘unstained’: she had committed no evil deeds. She was an enemy of Fëanor. She did not reach Middle-earth with the other Noldor, but independently. Her reasons for desiring to go to Middle-earth were legitimate, and she would have been permitted to depart, but for the misfortune that before she set out the revolt of Fëanor broke out, and she became involved in the desperate measure of Manwë, and the ban on all emigration.” And Christopher includes commentary on notes that would have essentially retconned Galadriel’s entire life story, making her motives for going to Middle Earth far more altruistic and her mistake being one of timing rather than willful rebellion. But he does say that this version was “adumbrated, but never told.” For the the majority of Tolkien’s life, he clearly conceived of her as a somewhat less-than-Immaculate figure, capable of pride, ambition, single-mindedness, a hunger for power, and occasionally cluelessness and vengeance. Can't Have Sex, Ever: Richard and Anne can't have sex after she gets diagnosed with tuberculosis, for fear he'll get infected too. for ancslove Fandoms: 15th Century CE RPF, The White Queen (TV), The Sunne in Splendour - Sharon Kay Penman, Historical RPF
