About this deal

PETA is delighted to have worked with Harry Ramsden’s to bring this innovative dish to the table. After lots of testing, the chain has mastered its banana blossom fish recipe to perfection so we can enjoy the taste of the sea while fish swim free.

It’s hard to catch up with all the new vegan launches, but the trend is clear: vegan takes on iconic British food have never been more popular. From Greggs’ glorious Vegan Sausage Roll to Fray Bentos’ Vegan Steak & Kidney Bean pie, PETA is proud to work with companies and businesses to help them provide 100% of the taste of the nation’s favourite dishes with 0% of the cruelty. Say Yes to Vegan Fish Now – the problem is, these aren’t the Chip Shop Style Mushy Peas from Harry Ramsdens I had a few years ago – and, well, they’re simply not the same. The vegan take on the iconic dish includes (surprise!) chips and comes with Harry Ramsden’s legendary mushy peas, which are suitable for vegans and everyone else who likes delicious food. Fish are beautiful, fascinating animals with individual personalities. They can use tools, tell time, and sing, and they have impressive long-term memories and complex social structures. They value their lives and feel pain – and like us, they don’t want to die.One can is two portions, but here are the values for a full can. I usually heat/serve half a can and put the other half in a lidded pot in the fridge, they can be used in the next 2-3 days, or even frozen. Not in Brighton? Let Harry Ramsden’s know you’d like to see vegan fish and chips at a location near you. Veganmania It might sound a bit tight, but if the chip shop are going to serve me sub-standard mushy peas at a premium price, I’m better off providing my own, chosen brand, mushy peas at less than half the price! If I put the peas in the microwave before I unwrap my chips, they’ll be just about ready by the time I’ve got my chips onto a plate, got a knife/fork, sprinkled my chips with vinegar and put the chip wrappers in the bin!

I love old fashioned chip shop mushy peas and years ago all chip shops would serve the same type. These days, however, most chip shops are serving tinned mushy peas and they’re a big disappointment.

Other Popular Food Brands

You can try Harry Ramsden’s vegan fish and chips at its Brighton restaurant – so if you’re in town right now or if you’re planning a weekend break by the sea, now you know where to go. We’re sure it’ll be a huge hit! However, it’s not always convenient to plan ahead and go through all this just for some nice mushy peas, so I’ve started to try to find the best mushy peas in a can that are available. I’ve tried most of the supermarket budget lines and they’re pretty rubbish – they’re mostly just tinned marrowfat peas. Hob: Empty the can into a saucepan, heat on the hob gently, do not boil. Serve when the peas are hot. In a large basin, soak the peas overnight (or for at least four hours) in three times their volume of cold water, with the bicarb. of soda added This helps to break down the peas and keeps them green
