About this deal

Fellow haven't stood still though, and the new Ode Brew Grinder (Gen 2) claims to take things to the next level. But is it worth the upgrade? We've been able to get some hands-on time with the new Fellow Ode 2 Brew Grinder, and we're here to share our thoughts with you. The main reason to upgrade is the new burr set, despite other subtle improvements. If you are a light roast drinker, you can buy the new burr set separately and use them in the generation one machine – a good option if you’re happy with most aspects of the original, but would like higher-quality coffee. Similarly, the more expensive SSP burrs can also be used in either machine.

It’s pretty expensive. If you’ve got a tight budget for your coffee grinder, it will likely not fit into it.You just need to weigh your beans and pour them into the hopper, place the grounds bin in the base and touch the start button. Then, the Fellow Ode takes care of the rest.

With the help of their unique two-stage grinding geometry, “Ode Gen 2 Brew Burrs” create a sweet, balanced, complex cup. Whether you’re a light roast drinker looking to extract more flavours from your beans, or a medium to dark roast lover seeking rich notes of chocolate and toffee, these burrs have something for everyone. This 120V model is only compatible with outlets in the US and Canada. To find an international retailer near you, head HERE. Ode Brew Grinder is not an espresso grinder nor suitable for moka pots. Larger Hopper- The updated grinder has a larger 100g hopper, compared to the original 80g hopper. This is to cater to batch brews.

Suggestions

The Ode Brew Grinder’s array of inventive features is impressive, although pulling off these innovations did not apparently distract its engineers from what really matters — the grind.

Nevertheless, café sized flat burrs aren’t necessarily ideal for domestic coffee grinding. That’s because a more powerful motor with a higher RPM is often needed, which creates more heat and noise while grinding. Of course, this isn’t usually a problem in a commercial setting, but it’s not ideal for the home. If you want a further upgrade, you can invest in higher-end SSP burrs, but they are more expensive than the original and generation two burr sets. In any case, the new burr set is so superior that you will probably not need to upgrade. No more waking up your roommates. From high-quality materials to ditching the noisy gearbox, Ode was designed with quietness in mind.Another convenience: The catch cup for the ground coffee centers easily and is securely held in place under the chute by magnets. This magnetic alignment is particularly handy considering the narrow clearance for the cup between base and chute. Grounds-funneling fins inside the catch cup also make pouring the grounds into even the narrowest of filters easy. The Fellow Ode has vertically-mounted 64mm flat stainless steel burrs that run on a PID-controlled motor. These burrs are impressive for a domestic grinder, as you’ll often find them in commercial grinders for espresso. Because burrs of this type are in the Fellow Ode – a grinder targeting the domestic market for filter brewing – it stands out from its rivals.
