About this deal

They’re jealous—and drunk. But still, I want to lecture them about the hypocrisy. Crew isn’t greedy? Just me?

Crew is my best option. Our situation is different because I’m also his best option. I have more power than most women entering an arranged marriage and no intention of ceding a single inch of it. Truly a beautiful song. It's clearly a relationship song--the entire album is an exploration of an individual's experiences reliving a bittersweet relationship, and this one starts it out...Canadian single certifications – The National – Fake Empire". Music Canada . Retrieved March 22, 2023.

Maybe.” I’m only half-listening now, busy scanning the tall tables below the wall of champagne bottles. It’s more than a maybe. Crew and I know a lot about each other. But we don’t know each other. and the whole miscommunication at the end was very unnecessary it only lasted for like 2 chapters though so it was fine ig lol I love a cynical, ice princess; a self-proclaimed bitch; an unfeeling, jaded heroine! But I love them because of the reminder they serve that women are flawed and infallible and that is okay. Stoic and aloof is often used to describe morally gray men but honestly, I know so many women like that too and sometimes I crave a non-sunshiney heroine and that is exactly what you’ll get in Scarlett Ellingsworth. She’s rich, intelligent, hard-working, stunning and powerful and she owns every inch of it. But with that high position comes the need to constantly prove herself and show no emotions, in the chance she gets misconstrued as overly emotional, weak or spoiled. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t have emotions or vulnerabilities or struggles and seeing her bare that softer side with the man she’s in forced proximity with made this such an amazing story! As soon as I appear, all conversation ceases. Six eyes widen. Three sets of lips purse. A few harsh comments sneak to the tip of my tongue, but I swallow them. You can’t expect anyone to see you as above them if you lower yourself to their level. Insults say more about the speaker than the intended recipient. Book Genre: Adult, Adult Fiction, Contemporary, Contemporary Romance, Fiction, Love, Marriage, New Adult, New York, Romance An interview that can be found at aquariumdrunkard.com/2008/07/10/matt-berninger-the-national-the-ad-interview/: I loved watching these billionaire nepotism babies running around, worrying about money like they won't still be millionaires even in the worst case scenario. Rich people are so funny.

The lyrics are sad and nostalgic, and they position a romantic relationship by using politicized language. Relationships are about losing and regaining personal sovereignty, and creating--upon a given landscape--a kind of psychic map...think of it as geographic waypoints significant to a couple's existence. The "Fake Empire" is the relationship as projected out into a city...it creates a significant landscape that is meaningful to the singer, but is ultimately just a construct, not real in any formal sense. It's the territory of the couple's own making...both real and imaginary. I really enjoyed Fake Empire; it felt like the book was specifically made with me in mind. It’s a book that includes a modern arranged marriage storyline between two of New York’s elite families. I love rich people drama. And this was that but so much more.I think you could interpret these lyrics in that way if you want. For me though this song is more about the sorry state of affairs in the modern Western world.
If you’d ever done more than compliment me on my dress in the past decade, you’d know the answer to that.” He bought my drink and then gave me a half-assed compliment.” And confirmed our engagement is imminent and incoming, but I keep that to myself. The thirty feet separating us shroud them, but I know the intense eyes currently fixed on me are blue. Hovering in a shade somewhere between icy and navy. Inviting, like the flat water surrounding a tropical island. One glance and you can imagine exactly how walking into that water will feel. I’m just saying—she probably can’t get anyone else to marry her. Her father needed to dangle billions to snag a catch. Pathetic.”

Crew’s fiancée.” The two words roll off my tongue like I’ve said them before, even though I haven’t. They still sound strange.I loved this book. I had FUNNNNN reading it, you know? And that's important. I fully think it doesn't have a very big plot; it's more about the journey and trust between the two characters. To see them grow into a couple couple instead of a marriage that was only for convenience/arranged. I loved both characters and they made me smile and enjoy this story so much! I do highly recommend you reading it if you enjoy the tropes and a billionaire heroine (we don't have a lot of them in romance! we do have a lot of billionaire heroes). This is where I was VERY confused. I didn't understand the virginity thing at all. First Scarlett says she's a virgin, then she mentions several times she had sex with men, Who?” Sophie asks, looking up from her phone. She might be more dedicated to her work than I am, which is saying something.
