About this deal

Always use ladders made with non-conductive side rails (e.g., fibreglass) when working with or near electricity or power lines. If you must be close to power lines, you must first call your electrical utility company and they will assist you. Do not operate tools in an area containing explosive vapours or gases, unless they are intrinsically safe and only if you follow the manufacturer's guidelines. Wait for the electrical utility to come and they will tell you when it is safe to get out of your vehicle.

All electrical systems have the potential to cause harm. Electricity can be either "static" or "dynamic." Dynamic electricity is the uniform motion of electrons through a conductor (this is known as electric current). Conductors are materials that allow the movement of electricity through it. Most metals are conductors. The human body is also a conductor. This document is about dynamic electricity. Ensure tools are properly grounded or double-insulated. The grounded equipment must have an approved 3-wire cord with a 3-prong plug. This plug should be plugged in a properly grounded 3-pole outlet. Our Electrical Safety Poster contains quality graphics and clear messaging that covers the following: Be aware of the dangers of working near or underneath overhead power lines. Electricity can flash over from them, even though machinery or equipment may not touch themWe also have plenty of useful resources related to safety within the classroom here. Dangers of Electricity equipment that is regularly moved, used frequently, or likely to get damaged, for example in wet or dusty environments

The risk assessment should take into consideration the type of electrical equipment used, the way in which it is used and the environment it is used in. Indirect: this includes damages that are caused by the electricity affecting something else which then affects the individual, such as falling and explosions As it is important to understand the regulations governing safety in the workplace, a wallchart may be displayed, for instance, at a common meeting point. This is a great way to broach the need for methodologies, and employees will be prompted to keep in line with protocols such as regular testing of Residual Current Devices (RCDs) and knowing where underground cables run. You must make sure electrical equipment and installations are maintained to prevent danger, so far as reasonably practicable. This means balancing the level of risk against the measures needed to control the real risk in terms of money, time or trouble.

Accidents do unfortunately happen, and reporting is required, according to the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR). Posters detailing the correct procedures are very helpful tools in this regard. The accident reporting poster will tell you which accidents should be reported, who must do this, and gives information on how to go about it. Forms for this can be pulled out of an accident reporting book. People are injured when they become part of the electrical circuit. Humans are more conductive than the earth (the ground we stand on) which means if there is no other easy path, electricity will try to flow through our bodies. It covers electrical safety in the home, at school and outdoors and includes lots of simple ways that you can help to protect yourself and your children from harm. Suspend extension cords temporarily during use over aisles or work areas to eliminate stumbling or tripping hazards.
