The polycarbophil-carbopol based vaginal gel has a high level of bio-adhesiveness capable of ensuring a prolonged moisturising action on the epithelium of the vaginal mucous membrane 2. This gel is capable of adhering to the vaginal mucous membranes thanks to the presence of two characteristic polyacid polymers having a high molecular weight and a molecular structure very similar to that of the vaginal mucous: Polycarbophil and carbopol 2. Polycarbophil is hydrophilic and provides direct cellular ‘moisturising’ action resulting from an increased flow of water molecules from outside to the inside of the cells on the surface of vaginal mucous membrane.
