LEGO have come a long way with Queens, and I must say, this Warrior Queen Lionne will go down in history as one of the most-loved Castle characters.

One last chunk of exterior scenery is a stone bridge that lines up with the far side of the drawbridge. Some SNOT connections on the rear side of the stonework allow for a good connection with the front wall of the castle. There’s also a small clip and bar connection along the other edge to keep things tightly aligned. If that weren’t cool enough, she also has a paper cape, with the Lion Knights’ sigil printed onto it, which just elevates her to a whole new level of awesome. The female soldiers are really cool too, and match Queen Lionne’s warrior queen status, and again, sends a great message to boys and girls. I love the idea of an all-female Queensguard, and here you can see some of their faces. There is clever technique after clever technique, and so many cool things done for the sake of aesthetics that will blow your mind away.

I had the honour of reviewing this set early, and as a fan of Vintage LEGO, and Classic Castle, this set was everything I dreamed of, and more, and just might be one of my favourite LEGO sets of all time. I was particularly impressed with the techniques employed to get all these cunning angles done, and the entire building experience felt like a whole new level of LEGO model building had been achieved. The play feature of the wheel/mill works very well, with rotation on both sides of the wall. The spinning wheel uses some simple Technic gearing to turn the millstone, which sits on a smooth tile base. When you’re finally ready to start taking parts out of the box, you’re presented with a number of loose part bags, a second white tab-sealed box, and a small paper flier.

Lion Knights’ Castle is an outstanding LEGO experience where money is not the object at play. It may take many months to save up for 10305 Lion Knights’ Castle, but the reward for doing so is so very special and unique to you that there’s no need to think twice when you come to that moment to spend hundreds on just one LEGO set. If these sigils and logos look familiar, you might recognise them from 375 Castle, which is a lovely nod to the heritage of LEGO Castle. But eventually, there’ll be a knob you can turn to raise and lower the drawbridge. This play feature works well, but I do kind of dislike the smooth tile used for the surface. This is a spot where some wood grain would have helped the look a lot.Did he die? Is he reincarnated? Did he possess some old peasant? Very disturbing the more you think about this sentence.

Update: I was wrong about the horse, it was first made available in 60327 Horse Transporter. Thanks to Hyperion for the heads up! Fittingly for a medieval castle, there is also a privy! Love that there’s even a roll of toilet paper, suggesting that they aren’t really that barbaric.
