About this deal

Audio performance is also upgraded over the original Pros, with new drivers and amplifiers. During our testing, we rated the sound on offer from the Pro 2 as excellent – there’s rich audio across genres and a wide and expansive soundstage. Active noise cancellation is tested in various real-world scenarios that reflect common use cases such as tube journeys, walks through crowded urban areas and days in the office. We conduct side-by-side comparisons with similarly priced earbuds to assess performance and will always try out every feature a pair of buds has in its arsenal. These include microphone quality – tested during phone calls, conference calls over platforms like Google Meet and by recording voice clips – and the functionality of a companion app where available. As the market’s best noise-cancelling earbuds overall, Bose’s newest flagship introduced several upgrades such as adaptiveactive noise cancellation(ANC), Bluetooth 5.3, and sound calibration technology for improved sound quality. In our review, we loved the fact that Bose has made the new version one-third smaller than the originalQuietComfort Earbuds, while also developing new ear-tips to help achieve optimal wear for more users. Samsung owners can enjoy extremely sharp-sounding music via a Samsung-only codec, Samsung Seamless – everyone else is downgraded to the worse-sounding SBC or AAC codecs (although Apple fans won’t notice, as this is all they get anyway). What else? Well, their voice-control is good, their touch controls are effective and the charging case is as robust and compact as the earbuds themselves. But most of all, the sound of the GT220 is up there with the very best.

Sound quality:Different models offer different sound, and since you’re buying a pair to enjoy music individually, it’s important to find headphones that match your sound preference, be it heavy bass or distinctively clear to where you can hear the littlest nuances in recordings. Some models like the NuraTrue Pro (top) offer personalized sound via companion app, which allows the user to create their own profiles and tweak EQ levels to their hearing. There are two distinct styles of true wireless earbuds. One-size-fits-all buds like the Apple AirPods give you no flexibility in terms of fit – their earpieces either sit snuggly in your ears or feel loose when worn. They’re the best choice if you want to leave your ear canals free but they provide little, if any, sound isolation. Samsung has been taking lessons from Apple, it seems – many of the best functions of these earbuds are reserved only for users of Samsung phones, making them a harder sell for those of us who don’t worship at the altar of the South Korean tech giant. You don’t have to have noise-cancellation on. A long press on one bud changes it to ‘Aware’ mode, letting important sounds through. You’d hear a car approaching, but it quietens chatter at work. There are ‘commute’, ‘focus’, ‘home’, ‘music’, ‘outdoor’, ‘relax’, ‘run’, ‘walk’ ‘work’ and ‘workout’ modes, too. I can’t claim to have detected the fine distinctions between them.

On the audio front, Apple has included a new H2 chip with custom amp and driver that delivers better lower and higher frequencies, and you can use the iPhone's TrueDepth camera to create a personalized spatial audiosound to listen to some of the best Dolby Atmossound in any pair of earbuds. Noise cancellation is double what the original AirPods Pro offered, and is among the best we’ve yet to experience. Since our review, a firmware update sees the QuietComfort Earbuds 2 now support aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless Better noise cancellation can be found elsewhere, and some may find the fit a bit fiddly, but neither issue prevents the EAH-AZ80 getting a big thumbs up from us.

Which wireless earbuds are best with an iPhone?

You have a few style options when finding a pair of true wireless earbuds. If you like the bud and stem look, you can find several true wireless earbuds similar to AirPods, where they have a small bud that sits in the ear and then a stem that hangs down and may include a microphone. If you like more subtle earbuds, you can use a smaller design. If stability is your top priority, and you don’t want to worry about your buds falling out of your ears, you may want to go with an over-the-ear design. Although the over-the-ear design is more familiar with in-ear headphones, you can also find earbuds in this design.

What are the best wireless earbuds in 2022?

At this price, the Technics are up against some heavy hitters from the biggest brands. But bog-standard battery life aside, the EAH-AZ70W make a strong case for themselves. Sony's excellent wireless earbuds slot neatly between the budget WF-C500 (no ANC) and premium WF-1000XM5. Codecs determine how Bluetooth transmits information to your device. The SBC codec is pretty much universal across all devices and works just fine, though you’ll open up the possibility to listen to higher resolution audio with more advanced codecs such as AAC, which is favoured by Apple, or Qualcomm’s aptX, aptX HD or aptX Adaptive codecs. Bear in mind that your output device must also support the codec: iPhones don’t support aptX so even if you own the very best wireless earbuds money can buy, you won’t be able to make use of it. Can I make and receive phone and video calls?
