About this deal

This can actually look quite effective at times, elevating the extra dynamism usually associated with Dolby Vision. Unfortunately, the raised brightness means that the lightest parts of Dolby Vision images can appear devoid of detail and subtle toning information. Motion is perfectly delivered, regardless of whether you’re watching a 24p movie on a disc or 50/60Hz streams from the built-in apps. In this latter respect the X800M2 easily outperforms Panasonic’s UB820, which suffers unwatchable amounts of judder when using its streaming apps. The remote control has quite accessible and easy buttons for control. The home button is placed near where the thumb rests for ease of use. Sony UBP x700 vs x800: Design and Build Quality

Sonically, the Sony UBP-X800M2 is excellent. It handles its highest-quality sources – Hi-Res audio files and, especially, DVD-Audio and SACD discs – with so much aplomb and precision that it deserves to be partnered with as high-end an audio system as you can manage. A simple Sony logo sits on the left side of the mirrored front panel, which folds down when the disc bay opens. There are power and open-close buttons on the right-hand side of the player, but they’re the only controls you’ll find on the device.Although the terms HDR and SDR may seem new to some, they are heavily used in tech lingo. First of all, as discussed above, HDR means High Dynamic Range which allows for color clarity and realism in videos. But what is SDR? When it comes to weight, the newer UBP-X800M2 model is a little bit lighter when compared to the older UBP-X800. Of course, video is only half the appeal of the UBP-X800. This universal disc player boasts proper High-Res Audio credentials, and is at home with both DVD-Audio and Super Audio CDs. As with all 4K Blu-ray players, the X800M2 can also play DVDs, HD Blu-rays, 3D Blu-rays and CDs, as well as the latest 4K platters. More surprisingly and impressively for its money, it can also play SACD and DVD-Audio discs – something its Panasonic UB820 is unable to do.

During the film’s second scene, in which muggle Jacob Kowalski goes to the bank, offering pastries to try and alleviate his financial woes, the emotion in both the bank manager’s steely refusal and Kowalski’s disappointing whisper is really quite expressive.File compatibility is excellent, covering FLAC, DSD (up to 11.2MHz with two-channel content), WAV, AAC, MP3, APE and Ogg. Sony’s DSEE-HX sound enhancer is on hand to make the most of low bit-rate sources. Video support includes MKVs, MPEG, MOV and AVI.

During the update, you see the progress bar x % on the TV. The x changes to 0 and goes up to 100 during the update process. As the creators of Blu-ray it must have come as a constant source of embarrassment for Sony that they didn't have a 4K Ultra HD BD player of their own last year. Samsung and Panasonic were first out of the gates with the UBD-K8500 and DMP-UB900 respectively and then towards the end of the year Panasonic released a second player in the form of the DMP-UB700 and Oppo joined the party, some would say slightly prematurely, with the UDP-203. Things got worse for Sony when the PlayStation 4 Pro arrived without an Ultra HD Blu-ray drive but arch-rivals Microsoft slipped one into the Xbox One S. After what seemed like an eternity Sony teased a UHD Blu-ray player at IFA last year before officially announcing the UBP-X800 at CES in January. If you own a projector or low-brightness TV, you may be pleased to hear that the X800M2 has a feature for converting HDR to SDR, so that you can enjoy the benefits of 4K Blu-ray’s extra resolution without having to worry about your display struggling with HDR. Connect the Blu-ray player to your internet source using an Ethernet cable or wireless connection via a router. The player also supports Miracast Screen Mirroring from compatible devices and is DLNA compliant. It instantly identified our NAS and Twonky Media servers.

The player will reboot itself and the update will continue. Don't use or turn on the player during this step. The x700 delivers a superb picture performance, flawlessly reproducing the 4K resolution, 10-bit video depth, WCG and HDR encoded on the discs. While streaming is obviously more convenient for most of us, anyone who wants the best possible picture and sound quality for their home theater needs Ultra HD Blu-ray. The format offers more stability and better fidelity than streaming, and it's a pretty significant leap forward from 1080p HD Blu-ray, too. That's especially obvious when you throw HDR (High Dynamic Range) and WCG (Wide Color Gamut) into the mix, which results in increased contrast and greater color volume. Picture quality is superb. In terms of resolution, this Sony delivers everything to the screen with zero artefacts or anomalies. Colour performance is exceptional. The player interpolates UHD with up to 4:4:4 subsampling, and presents band free colours. Unlike rival UHD players from Panasonic, the player doesn’t offer selectable output modes. Instead, it automatically sends the maximum amount of data within the capability of the connected screen. For example, if your 4K TV supports UHD at 60p disc, the player will output 2160p, with a frame rate at 60p, Deep Colour at 12bit, and chroma at 4:4:4. The UBP-X800M2 is an updated version of the UBP-X800M2. So, what are the main differences between these two models? If the message Connection status cannot be confirmed or This device is not connected to network shows on the TV, the problem might be with the network connection: The UBP-X800 is unquestionably a superb all-round media player. Blu-ray picture quality is excellent, both with standard discs and UHD platters. Images are smooth and artfully precise. Universal audio disc support should also win it support in the hi-fi community. And while it has no trouble with large-scale sounds, it really comes through in its low-level dynamics. The X1000ES can handle just about every file format imaginable, so you can stream Xvid, WMV, MKV, MOV, AVI, AVCHD, MPEG2 and MPEG4 video files via USB or your home network. There's also support for Hi-Res Audio such as FLAC, ALAC and DSD (11.2MHz at two-channel), as well as support for WAV, AAC and MP3. Sony include their DSEE HX digital sound enhancement engine which upscales the frequency and dynamic range of MP3s and other compressed music to create a higher resolution experience.
