About this deal

Having a portion of the pavement is a nice bonus although it does stand a little proud of the LEGO Modu baseplates. Maybe a MOC could remedy this and somehow build the Taxi rank into the Boutique Hotels walkway?

Good review! It's definitely charming and a beautiful match for nostalgic vibes of the Modular Buildings Collection. The only other set I remember with old-school curved fenders like this was 70911, and needless to say that was at a far more exaggerated scale! It's a great demonstration of how useful the 1x3 inverted arch can be for automotive detailing. The single minifigure included in this set doesn’t have any unique pieces, but the combination is new, making him one of those “somewhat exclusive” characters. His head has had 11 other appearances across many themes. (In fact, this is the clone of the chef from the 10260 Downtown Diner.)

Taxi is, in many ways, a confusing companion for 76269 Avengers Tower. The four minifigures have little relation to the tower and LEGO fans interested in Avengers Tower may already own 76178 Daily Bugle, which includes another taxi. Honestly, this model feels like the result of designers not knowing what to make, which I would understand, as 76269 Avengers Tower already includes most things associated with this location. Not if the passenger has any luggage (especially not the new air-friendly rolling suitcase). Driver’s got to have someplace to stash the giant lunch he’s carrying. We aren't made of money so we can't be spending hundreds of dollars to get a little set like this 3. Thanks to the death of the Lego store calendar no one can plan anymore to get GWP. Take the amount needed out of the equation and it’s totally worth it and a joy to build and display, it sits perfectly alongside the LEGO Boutique Hotel (10297) and rightfully so, its from the same are after all! Get rid of that silly art gallery which also made no sense (a full art gallery modular would have been much better, and could have included some more Lego versions of famous art, like the Mona Lisa for example).

Box and Contents

Thank you for reading through our review of the LEGO Vintage Taxi (40532) set, we hope you e joyed it as much as we did. In fact, just the stairs and upper bar area would probably have done to 'sacrifice' parts. The taxi looks awesome, it's so nice getting vintage cars in Lego (and we rarely ever get them) so it's very annoying that they are all GWP these days. The inclusion of the flat cap is very nice and just adds to the characters look, along with the suitcase, that of course has a donut inside. And that was for Amelia Earhart - an excellent set (also, more parts at a lower spending threshold) Well, a passenger, anyway. There’s only room here for the driver and a single rider. There is, however, space in the trunk for some luggage. Too bad our driver has already claimed that spot for his donut stash.

When this set was revealed, I found the taxi decidedly underwhelming, based primarily on its seemingly awkward shape. However, this model is more attractive than I expected and I think the first image was unflattering. The proportions of the vehicle are realistic and the curvature of its bonnet and windscreen looks superb, which is something LEGO cars often struggle with. It features a very simple signpost that resembles the colours of a traditional Taxi, yellow and orange, its a great addition to the base and gives it that extra little something. Alongside that is a green rubbish bin, inside you’ll find one of the relatively new ‘ poop‘ pieces, officially known as a Swirl, I can only guess that this particular bin is for Dog waste! Yeah, he probably just likes donuts. Enough to carry them around in a briefcase. (In fact, this could be the Donut Thief from the Police Station Modular!) Not too sure I like this trend of extremely expensive GWPs… but as demonstrated in November 2021, LEGO know how to play the game to squeeze as much money as they can from their fans.I must say that this Minifigure is exclusive to the set, but as i mentioned above it’s only the combination that is unique as the printed torso and other parts have all been seen and used before in many other sets. This doesn’t detract at all from the wonderful design work LEGO have done on the Head and torso parts as that is top notch as always and done to their high standards. In my review of the minifigures from 76269 Avengers Tower, I mentioned the need for civilians requiring rescue. An unnamed Taxi Driver fulfils the role nicely and features some interesting pieces, as this torso has only appeared once before, in 76405 Hogwarts Express - Collectors' Edition. Moreover, the sand blue jeans look good and the minifigures comes with a coffee cup, as well as a printed slice of pizza, returning from 10312 Jazz Club. I find the inconsistency between modular cars very strange. The diner gets one where two people could sit side by side, but then the garage gets something like you’d find in City. I know this GWP isn’t a defacto modular set, but it’s a pity it isn’t wider. I’d always hoped we might get something like ER0L’s fantastic designs to buy one day. (I wish I could figure out how to reverse engineer some of those. Alas…)" As is usual for minifig-scale cars nowadays there are no doors, so access to the interior is by removing the roof. And I think a big part of why LEGO was able to work side-by-side seating into those earlier vehicles in the Modular Buildings Collection is that they were vehicle types with no roof, no side windows, and either flat side walls or none at all! All these factors made it quite a bit easier for them to deal with the minifigure's awkward, unwieldy proportions.
