We DO NOT recommend heating breastmilk or any liquid for a baby or toddler in a microwave because the microwave can create hot spots that could burn baby and damage breastmilk nutrients. We do NOT recommend heating the bottle in the Microwave in any form. Good for breastfed babies: The bottles are described as having a natural milk flow, which can be controlled by the baby. They claim this creates an experience close to breastfeeding. Anti colic: The bottles have ‘Active Flow Venting Technology’. Born Free claims that their bottles improved colic symptoms more than anti-colic bottles from other brands (7). Breast feeding is natural and this has led to brands making these claims about their ‘breast like’ bottles. However some people may disagree that bottles can truly mimic the ‘real thing’.

A slow flow teat on a bottle may also help. A fast flow teat can cause the milk to flow too fast and continuously. A slow flow nipple may be more similar to breastfeeding as it helps the milk to flow more slowly and also allows your baby to pause feeding, in the same way as breastfeeding. The 5 colic symptoms they looked at included; crying, folding legs up to stomach, frowning and discomfort, face turning red and pain spasms. There’s no definite best time to introduce a first bottle but it’s often recommended to wait until your baby is at least 4-6 weeks old, if you plan to continue breastfeeding. However, for longer life of the NaturalWave® Nipple, we recommend hand washing.The reason Lansinoh’s breast pads are so absorbent is that they contain a fine powder within the construction of the pad that is a super absorbent polymer (SAP). When the milk lets down and begins to flow, the powder turns into a gel, which is the action that is keeping you dry. If you noticed gel on your breast, it probably means that this leaked from the pad onto your skin either because the pad was torn or ripped prior to your using it or because the pad was too saturated with milk. This could happen after a particularly big letdown or after wearing the pad for many hours. One option is changing your pad more frequently if you think that could be the cause. Because our pads are so absorbent, it may not seem as though you are leaking a lot of milk but this is sometimes the case. Get somebody else to feed your baby. if your baby can smell your breast milk it can be confusing for them.

They conclude there was a reduction in crying and fussing by the babies using the Dr Brown bottles.The evidence: A research project was carried out with 30 babies with colic type symptoms in 2010. 20 babies were given the Born Free bottles and 10 babies continued with their usual bottles. 85% of the 20 babies showed improvement with their colic symptoms. If you experience nipple soreness beyond a slight tenderness when your baby latches on you may need to make some adjustments so you can be comfortable and enjoy breastfeeding your baby. Uncomfortable attachment of the baby at the breast when feeding is often the cause of sore nipples – a temporary but painful condition. Using the word ‘natural’ for some bottles is slightly uncomfortable in that it suggests other bottles can be labelled as ‘unnatural’.
