About this deal

I give the design a 5, though this is something each individual will need to test out for themselves. I like that Klymit is innovative and pushing the level of comfort and weight in their sleeping pads. Klymit uses a standard twist and pull valve. It’s well made and works well. More on sleeping pad valve types in our Guide. We tested and reviewed the Klymit Insulated Static V. Klymit makes a number of different versions of this sleeping pad — all them have the V-shaped baffles, a twist and pull valve, and are wider than normal pads. If you want an uninsulated pad, the Static V or Static V2 are good options. They weigh around a pound each, but know that they have no insulation.

The design of the mat has not been changed very much so you still get a very comfortable sleep with this. This comes from the center portion of the pad having that distinctive V shape while the outer edges are a bunch of little squares that form a side rail which increase stability and cushioning. Overnight, we slept well in the tent. The mat itself is very quiet, with minimal rustling or crinkling, but once or twice we noted that when turning over in our lightweight down bag, a sudden escape of air from between those deep channels caused an audible squeak. Some other users seem to have likened this sound to a fart! We didn’t really experience that issue on test, but then maybe some people wriggle around a lot more in the night than we do – what can we say, we’d done a long day’s hiking, and we were dog tired. Overall, I absolutely love this pad. It’s extremely lightweight without sacrificing luxury and comfort.

Performance Comparison

As the name suggests, the sleeping pad has a “V” shape from the center, while the outer edges are rectangles that form somewhat of a side rail. See the photo above. This was what I was most excited to test out, as my older pad has a normal, simple design. While I like my other pad, I do tend to wake-up multiple times in the night to adjust, as I am a side sleeper.

Side Rails: Integrated into the patterning and construction, they provide a secure, comfortable sleep by centering you on the pad and inhibiting air movement while tossing and turning. A moderate weight for an insulated air pad. There are lighter options, but you’ll have to pay more for them. I touched on the Static V2’s comfort in the “design” section, but I will cover comfort and stability in more detail here. The Klymit Static V2 is one of the best-valued sleeping pads on the market. For one, it’s the most comfortable sleeping pad I’ve used, providing plenty of cushion and stability.

The Klymit Insulated Static V-Lite sleeping pad is a winter-ready, high-performance sleeping mat with an accommodating cut that delivers on all fronts

Klymit is making its mark in the world of sleeping pads because of their ultralight set up and innovation. Their patented body mapping technology really sets them apart when it comes to comfortable, light sleeping pads.

The Klymit Insulated Static V is three inches wider than your standard sleeping pad. This gives you more room for a better sleep. Your elbows might not fall off! Beyond comfort, the Klymit Insulated Static V Sleeping Pad thoroughly surprised me with its ease of use.R-Value is the measurement used to gage a sleeping pad’s ability to insulate. The higher the R-value, the warmer the sleeping pad will be, as this what measures its capacity to “resist” (hence the “R”) heat flow. You have to inflate this air pad with your breath, but it doesn’t take as many breaths as other pads. This is due to the V-shaped baffles.

From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.Deep Weld Patterning: Unlike traditional pads that flatten the bag’s fill, Deep Welds create expansion zones that allow your bag to fully loft beneath you for improved thermal comfort. Your breath inflates this pad. That makes it lighter, but it takes effort to set up at the end of the day. More on the different sleeping pad types in our Guide. Insulation is important even in summer because you lose body heat to the ground. With an R-Value of only 1.3, the Static V2 is not recommended for cold temperatures. If you’re looking for something warmer, have a look at the ThermaRest NeoAir XLite NXT. Klymalite™ Synthetic insulation: Lightweight, compressible and durable, advanced synthetic insulation in the chambers slows the transfer of air between the top and bottom halves of the pad for improved thermal performance. This is an insulated pad with a relatively high R-Value. Above 4 is enough for all 4 seasons. More on R-Value and Temperature rating in our Guide.
